Book Description

January 1, 2005
The 36 stratagems are a set of powerful Chinese aphorisms embodying the essence of the ancient Chinese art of cunning. First mentioned about 1,500 years ago, and committed to paper nearly 500 years ago, the 36 stratagems have been gaining popularity in Chinese business circles since the 1990s. Though more than 80 books have been published recently in the Far East recommending the use of the 36 stratagems in the modern business world, these books are as yet unknown in the Western countries. Managers at all levels will therefore benefit from this English-language book evaluating the 36 stratagems and detailing how to apply them in management as well as "economic warfare." Entertaining and thought provoking, the text includes examples of managers who have been able to achieve objectives using the strategems. The 36 stratagems encourage flexibility and new ways of thinking about business issues, making this handbook widely adaptable to changing conditions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good writing on the 36 strategies, September 15, 2011
This review is from: The 36 Stratagems for Business : Achieve Your Objectives Through Hidden and Unconventional Strategies and Tactics (Hardcover)
The book is adapted for western readers who are not familiar with Chinese culture and the original 36 strategies. It explains what each strategy is and how to apply to business. The only thing I wish that has been included in the book is the actually war stories where the strategies were first originated or used. This would make the readers understand them better and make the reading more entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars Senger is the best, February 14, 2011

Very insightful material. I would say though that the material must steep a bit before it is fully realized. Read the book, then after a year or so it will begin to unfold.

This review is from: The 36 Stratagems for Business : Achieve Your Objectives Through Hidden and Unconventional Strategies and Tactics (Hardcover)
I enjoyed reading the 36 strategems for business. It did combine the old chinese methods to present day business. Some of the principles shown were very apt and opens your mind to the traditional system of doing business and what they did right then and whats the difference today
