1.0 out of 5 stars warning to teachers who are looking for texts to assign, January 31, 2010

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Strategic Management: Concepts and Cases (12th Edition) (Hardcover)
I have assigned this textbook for a class on strategic management I am teaching. This was the book previously thaught in my school and seemed as good as any on the market. As such, I am sure that people will find the book useful.

However, I am very disappointed by the fact that Professor David advertises in his book a "strategy club" website that clearly seems to be run by himself and family. The website runs on membership fees and offers a software to do some of the exercises in his book. If a student becomes a "gold member" David will provide actual presentations that the student can use for their class presentations.

Free "useful resources" on the website only include a few random links to sites such as monsterjobs that any ordinary college or university student would already know about. No work has been put to the free component of the site. Shameful.

My background is economics and economic sociology. Maybe I am not used to the more pragmatic and real-world oriented approach of Strategy teachers like David. But if management is part of academia as is the case in most self-respecting schools and departments, they should really have adhered to academic integrity principles. Last I checked, selling assignments to students was a big no no in most colleges.

On the plus side, I tried to register as a member to see what kind of fees David was actually charging and couldn't manage to find the actual registration page despite being computer savvy. So most students will probably fail to do so too.

Embarrassing.
PS: By the way, there is also a strategy certification program run by David for 1200$ a person. Tsk tsk

5.0 out of 5 stars Strategic Management...Best Buy, September 21, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Many people purchased the hardcover of this book and paid twice as much for a hard cover and some color pages. I am thrilled to have been able to find a book that was less than a hundred bucks for the first time in a long while. This is also the last book that I have to purchase in order to finish up on a degree. Great book, Thanks.
