Book Description

March 1, 2011 1568612621 978-1568612621 Third
This is the long-awaited update of Mr. Skousen's classic book on relocation for security. Nearly 3/4 of this 3rd Edition is rewritten and it is expanded to 400 pages. In the process, the authors created all new graphics, charts and tables. There is also a new section on international retreat potential and 200 additional pages of analysis on every state and province of the US and Candada, complete with color maps.

The maps are chock full of detail, including private and public land use, satellite terrain features, military target areas, roads and graphic depictions of population density---one of our major threats to security in a crisis.

Despite the ongoing illusions of peace and prosperity, our world is getting less stable, not more. The economic foundations of the US and the world are all based on fiat money and are crumbling. Earthquakes, Hurricanes, War and terrorism are ever present threats, and the secondary effects of social unrest in large metropolitan areas will be disruptive and dangerous if there is a shortage of essential commodities that cause people to panic.

When you relocate or retire your prime concern should be long-term security, not recreation. Sometimes you can have both. This book is designed to help you relocate around serious threats and to develop contingency plans when you can't relocate due to work or family ties.

Strategic Relocation is more than just pointing out safe areas--simply because the safer the area, the harder it is, generally, to make a living and have access to the conveniences of life. For these reasons, relocation decisions are fairly complex, and Mr. Skousen walks you through all of the difficult choices and compromises that are inevitable in finding safety, without being totally isolated. This book has answers for nearly every situation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of information for where to live in the US May 20, 2011
Format:Perfect Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you are trying to stem the tide of trouble by relocating, this is an excellent book to help you pick the safest place. It also includes some other places in the world to live. By comparison, the US is more free and contains more natural resources. The books explains how each state lines up to the safety measures and rates them 1-5. 5 is the best and guess which get the best... UT and ID. Check this book out for which cities are best and in which states as well as advice on whether the state your in is best to bunker down in. Lots of color maps are included for each state showing natural resources, spots more likely to get bombed, etc...

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for ANYONE considering a home ANYWHERE July 22, 2011
Format:Perfect Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
While the authors' intended this book as a helpful resource for those wanting to relocate for safety and security reasons -- after buying it and reading it, I wish we had read it forty years ago. The book examines in detail, various regions in the United States (and elsewhere), where you may be thinking of buying a home.

Their maps of various states include everything a future home-owner really should be aware of, before they purchase a home, or even make an offer.

Yes, buy it, if Security is your main concern. But make sure you buy it, if you are about to buy your FIRST home, as well.

Very well done. Highly recommended.

Obviously alot of research has gone into Mr. Skousens 3rd edition update of this great reference book. I especially liked his discussion of prepardness and personal/family security in the early chapters and the colored reference maps toward the end, as well as his coverage of the whole USA, including where I live in the Eastern US. The other fine book on the market, Rawles on Retreats and Relocation, discounts anything East of the Mississippi as a consideration for a security retreat, so having a professional analysis of my area was particularly helpful. Many friends have asked to borrow the book. I highly recommend it.

Actually about 4.5 stars and it would have been 5 stars, were it not for the conspiratorial world view i.e. I believe that there may well be, and likely are, all sorts of unseen things moving below the surface, but I don't buy their particular take on what they might be.

I am aware of no other comprehensive book on this subject other than perhaps the apparently outdated 2007, "Rawles On Retreats and Relocation," which I have not seen, but Joel M. Skousen's 2011, large format, 3rd edition of "Strategic Relocation: North American Guide to Safe Places'" is a high quality, well-designed, 348 page paperback that is very impressive, and has obviously been researched and produced with a great deal of effort, care, and attention to detail; particularly impressive and useful are the close to a hundred large, very clear, and informative, mostly full color maps that are found throughout this book. At $35 dollars it is a great bargain, and offers information in both narrative and visual form that you won't find laid out so usefully and comprehensively elsewhere, information that would take you--on your own--a very long time to find, to sift through and evaluate, to organize, and to present in very useable, easily comprehensible form, as has been done here. I particularly liked their insights on the influence of geography and natural travel paths on site selection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strategic Relocation July 5, 2011
Format:Perfect Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Very informative book. Lots of data about things you may not consider but need too. Am using the book to not only assess where I live now but places to consider for relocation/retirement. I especially like the tax info, climate and political freedoms listings. All of this is information that you can find but has been complied in an easy to use format. Plus you have the authors input about our current situation and how he feels things may change in the future. The shipping service directly from the authuor was excellant, I received this book in just three days.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST book of the year. GET IT. October 9, 2011
Format:Perfect Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm not so much a survivalist person, just interested in survival tactics and gear. I might not be the kind of audience that the authors intended this book to be for, but I must say that this guide is fascinating from cover to cover. I don't know how accurate the information is because it would be a lot of research to really fact check all the details, but it's written so well that I don't question it. Even though this guide is jammed pack with maps and statistical data, it's not boring. It's not like you are reading an encyclopedia or anything, this book is as compelling as any top selling novel is.

The best chapters in this book are the ones that breakdown every state with statistics for not only climate and population, but also for taxes and local government. This is definitely the guide to get if you are curious about every state's tax system. I was quite surprised how extensive all the data that was gathered. And I also liked the first chapters that talked about the big survival issues such as natural disasters, war, and social unrest both in American and around the globe -- all fascinating stuff. I found the earthquake zone map something that I will reference for a long time.

If you are obsessed with survival, are planning a road trip, or are preparing for a zombie invasion, get STRATEGIC RELOCATION. I would say this is the best book I have purchased all year. If the 4th edition comes out, I'll be buying that immediately.
