Deputy Chief Vincent Dunn (retired) is a 42-year veteran of the Fire Department of New York (FDNY). Chief Dunn is a recognized authority on firefighting and the recipient of many awards acknowledging his achievements—“Man of the Year” (1990) by the Society of Fire Protection Engineers; the Edward W. Whalen Award (l995) by the New York City, Fire Safety Director’s Association; a Lifetime Achievement Award (1999) by Fire Engineering Magazine; and the Lifetime Achievement Award (2000) by the New York City Fire Department.
Chief Dunn is a contributing editor with Firehouse Magazine and FDNYÂ’s publication WNYF and the author of a number of textbooks: Collapse of Burning Buildings, Safety and Survival on the Fireground, and Command and Control of Fires and Emergencies. He developed and taught a number of courses for the FDNY, the FBI and the National Fire Academy and currently teaches at John Jay College, City University of New York. He has a masterÂ’s degree in urban studies, a bachelorÂ’s degree in sociology and an associateÂ’s degree in fire administration from Queens College, City University of New York.

Strategy of Firefighting is nothing short of this; amazing and informative!In over 30 chapters, Chief Dunn has answered the question many of us have- "What goes through the mind of the Incident Commander?" I feel this book is essential to every firefighter because, unlike many other books that explain how to do something, this explains why we are doing it. This is the second book by Vincent Dunn I've ordered from Amazon and I have again been impressed by his knowledge. This book is very factual and gets straight to the point. There are a few pictures but more important is the abundance of information on can take from this book. There was information in this book that I was not aware of. Being a Career Firefighter I would recommend this book as a learning tool for an academy class all the way to a seasoned vet. A++++
