These are all plastic even the spike to put them into the ground. We put them together and tried to put the first into the ground and the spike bent. We could only put them into the flower beds since the spikes bent trying to get them in the grass. The color is wrong on them a well they look very fake and cheap. I would avoid these.

Surprisingly realistic "flame",

Solar lights for yard/garden are notoriously inadequate for providing any real light. The nickel cadmium batteries are inferior and outdated, and I don't know why manufacturers don't offer an upgrade to new technology batteries with more power. But these Chinese imported lights are for mood/accent lighting. Solar lights are good for that. The 3 LED's inside the translucent lens flicker in an amazingly convincing yellow "flame." Really cool, and I don't impress easily. The plastic faux bamboo stands are not as convincing, and are too weak for the task. If you put these lights at full height using all 3 sections of plastic bamboo tubes you're likely to be disappointed. I used one section, holding light about 1.5 feet above ground, and they looked nice. As each section breaks, I have extras. If you want them tall, and you are innovative, you can adapt genuine bamboo cut from a real tiki torch, and replace the cheap plastic tubes. Mine are a few weeks old, and after a sunny day they stay flickering all night.

Works as advertised,

Being forewarned I assembled the torches with a bit of anxiety. Yes, they are made of thin plastic and especially the stakes are flimsy. It also took a while to take of the stickers A through E. Here are the good news: 1) Really like the on/off switch. In dark periods such as winter I can charge the batteries and know to have light when I need it.
2) Here in CA, they run through the entire night in October - good efficiency. 3) Made a whole for the stakes with a iron rod and then "planted" torches. Worked well and the torches held up in the soil for a few weeks now. 4) Last but not least: They do provide enough light to see steps in the dark, just enough. I have all six spread out over a 10 yard area - it's perfect. I would buy them again for that price. I also would purchase the same item if sturdier for twice the price. Ideally I could use real bamboo for the bottom part if an adapter part would exist. Cheers !

Great for ambient lighting,

I bought these because I liked the idea of solar lighting on the patio. These were great for ambient lighting, but don't expect them to light an area, regardless of how small the patio or area is. They are well made and have different length poles that you can combine to get the desired height that you want. The flicker effect (like a real torch) is a nice touch.

They look great,

Just installed these lights around my pool and they look great, my only regret is that I did not wait one more week to order them as they went down from $40 to $30.

Fun to use around the pool!,

I purchased these because my children keep bugging me to purchase the oil based Tiki Torches. I always worried about the flame so when I saw these I thought I'd give them a try. During the day they soak up the sunlight, as soon as it gets dark, the "flicker" lights come on giving the illusion of a real flame inside the torch.
We used a mallet with a cloth covering the base to hammer them into the grass around the pool. They have stayed up without any problem. If you are looking for lighting to find your way in the dark, then these are not for you. If you just want to add to your outside decor, without having to worry about actual flames, then these will do the trick. They have a sensor that will turn them on at dusk (to test, place your hand over the top sensor and the light will go on)and off at dawn. So far I've been very happy with these!

I bought this Strathwood 6-Piece Solar Tiki Torch Light Set for light up my sideway. But I can only use them at Halloween time since their candle lights can create a scary scenario. Don't buy them if you want to bright your way.

These look very cool at night. They also use AA batteries so you can juice the charge if its cloudy in the daytime. This is a great buy. Yes it's a bit plasticy so plant with care, but a great solution if you dont like the idea of kids running around the fuel of a real torch.

This product looks really amazing at night...but I warn buyers not to be surprised when the item arrives...it's allll plastic. Which is fine...but I was a tiny bit shocked by just how much plastic there was. The little lights are very cool though and really do look like flickering flame. It's a nice way to create the tiki feeling without the mess, smell, and fire hazard of the real thing.

Flicker Lights have good price, some weaknesses,

Love the price. However, the 'flicker' is a steady, rythmical one. Not realistic flame-like. And while the 'spikes' may work in sand or softer dirt, they are not strong enough to pound into typical soil. They will need to be reinforced with a short pole or rebar if you want then to stay in and stay vertical (level).
