I bought this bird feeder after looking locally for a large feeder - prices were out of sight here. This is a strong & heavy feeder. It may not hang on your average hook or limb. It's made for almost any feed except thistle. Ours is loaded with half chicken scratch and half bird seed mix from our local feed store. It easily comes apart and goes back together for refill or cleaning.

While still being a nice large feeder I found out that rain will fill the bird seed tray and soak up into the entire container of feed where it sours or ferments. The base needs to be worked over. I have a good metal and woodworking shop. I imagine I'll remove what base I can and still retain the feeder holes and assembly full length screw and attach a flat wooden and/or screen wire platform. See photo.

The feeder holds a lot of seeds and is very stable. The cardinals love it, as do the finches. The downside, however, is the fact that the standing area is large enough for Rock Doves and Pigeons. The smarter ones have actually figured out how to balance on one foot while chowing down. The copper dome lid looks beautiful in the sunlight, and cleaning this feeder is a snap. A good buy for those bird lovers who feed by the ton!

I love this Strathwood birdfeeder. It's easy to clean, and so easy to fill! However, there is a problem. When a couple of raccoons terrorized my bird garden the glass broke, and I can't find anywhere to replace the globe. Does anyone have any ideas or an address for the company?

We have had it for three seasons now, with little to no problems... about to go into our fourth season! It holds a LOT of birdseed, which is good as we get a LOT of birds here! We also have many woodpeckers, and since the holder is all metal and glass, they cannot "peck" through and break it, as they have with the plastic bird feeders. I have occasionally put the pieces through the dishwasher to clean, with great sanitizing results. As for one reviewer who had a backup of water in the tray... I am guessing that bird seed has clogged his drainage holes, which do occasionally get seed in there. Also, one reviewer described filling the feeder from the bottom... which is actually impossible with this feeder. The "ball" ring unscrews off the top, and the bell and top roof both slide off the post for filling. You CAN also remove the glass from the bottom tray... for a total of 5 separate pieces (including the "ball" ring) for cleaning. Perhaps this is what that reviewer was referring to???

Overall, I highly recommend this great looking and practical bird feeder. As another reviewer stated, this is a HEAVY duty feeder that holds a LOT of food... so you DO need a sturdy place to hang/install it. However, you will not be filling it every day, even with tons of birds eating, AND it comes apart easily for cleaning. Enjoy!

I gave this to my parents. They mounted it on a post in their yard since there was no place to hang it from. It looks nice and the birds like it.

This bird feeder is ok. The metal parts of it are thin, and the top of my feeder is already starting to rust. (I have only had it hanging for about 1 month) However, it is an attractive feeder and is easy to fill. I do think that the price is a bit too much, and there is no way this feeder normally sells for $60.

Have bought 3 so far. All arrived in good condition and assembled. Holds a good amount of feed. They do weigh a few pounds when loaded so I hung then with chain. The glass globe is a nice hammered finish and looks to last a lot better than plastic. The copper finish looks nice and will have to wait and see how it holds up. Top is bid enough and smooth enough to keep squirrels out.

i was so happy with this item when i first put it up as its beautiful however, the very first time i took it down to add new bird seed the part that closes the top broke (stripped) so it was rendered useless. a total disappointment!

This unit attracts small birds, does a nice job of feeding them, and is attractive to people. It is great, even though replacement bubble glass is not available.
