5.0 out of 5 stars I'm impressed...
I purchased this with the square 8 x 8 foot Timber umbrella and I couldn't be happier. This is a very heavy stand and also very attractive. With your umbrella bolted down in this stand you won't have to worry about it blowing away. Update: In mid to strong wind it does tip over, you either have to put it in a table or I put a couple of heavy bricks on it and now it is...

1.0 out of 5 stars Wrong size, and Amazon ad doesn't tell you
The base doesn't fit my umbrella -- the hole is only 1-1/2" inches in diameter. My umbrella pole is 1-7/8". Nowhere in the Amazon ad is the pole diameter mentioned.

Also, read the fine print: "To prevent rusting, the base should be protected from constant exposure to rain and moisture." In other words, don't use it outside.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice heavy umbrella stand.., July 10, 2007

This arrived in a crushed box, but the stand itself was in great shape. I put it together in 5 minutes. Just wish the umbrella I ordered here on Amazon was as good of quality. Unfortunately my umbrella pole bent in half in a strong wind. Strong stand though! My now broken pole stayed upright in the stand!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well with my 9ft market patio umbrella, July 10, 2007
This review is from: Strathwood Basics Ryer 17-1/2-Inch Umbrella Base (Lawn & Patio)
This base is nice and heavy and seems very durable...it holds up my 9ft patio umbrella nicely with no tipping over in the wind so far. I was a little surprised at the huge wrench included to tighten a small bolt at the bottom of the base which holds the pole and the metal piece provided seems unnecessary but I attached it anyway...so far not a bad purchase and it shipped out relatively quickly!

Not impressed with this base...Mine was "deformed" in some of the designs. Feel very poor quality control of mdse. I did not bother to exchange as it took 3 tries to get a not damaged or badly defective matching table (strathwood Bainbridge Cast Aluminum Rd. Table.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value, July 2, 2011

This umbrella base is a great value for the price. We recently purchased patio furniture from a major department store and received a free umbrella; the problem was the umbrella base was more expensive than the umbrella would have been. I immediately jumped on Amazon and found this Strathwood base which was just as handsome and stable at half the price. My only recommendation is if you are keeping it outdoors all the time, spray it with pam, wd40, or some other oil base spray to prevent rust from forming at the joint.

it's a great looking stand, however does not hold well my 9 foot Olefin umbrella, it tilted twice in the afternoon on windy days. it'll be a nice stand if we have a table to support.

Nice item for the price. Came with two bolts on the stem of the base. Couldn't bolt the top one. I may have striped it. Other than that it is very attractive and heavy duty!

The base arrived quickly and in perfect shape. It was as described, yet better looking than the picture. It is heavy enough and has not weathered, although we have not owned it long. Our guests at the B&B have noticed the base and umbrella!!

Looks nice, goes well with my set. My daughter bolted it in and took it out for the winter (she is a teen so I assume it was easy as there was no complaining.)
