Product Description

Product Description

Gold Mine is an interactive tile-laying game. Players control miners who excavate a maze of mine tunnels and collect gold nuggets in a race to get rich. It may sound simple but once the other players attempt to steal your gold and hinder your progress you'll understand why this is the game of exploration riches and peril!

From the Manufacturer

You are excavating a mine that is rich in shiny, shimmery gold nuggets. As you build a maze of mine tunnels collecting gold, you must watch out for other miners, who are just as anxious for the gold as you are. It will be an all-out battle to the finish as you race your way back out of the mine.

Gold Mine is a great family board game.
Everyone can join in excavating a mine for gold. You build the mine as you go and collect gold along the way. And who doesn't like to collect gold?

One of the reasons why we like Gold Mine as a family board game is that it allows up to 6 players to play at a time. It's also great for families because it's simple to learn and play. So even the young kids in the family can join in the fun. But just because it's easy for younger kids to play doesn't mean the older kids and adults won't like it too.

Since the game centers around the drawing of tiles to build the board, there is plenty of luck in what you get next. However, we haven't found the game to be driven solely by luck. Even though a tile may be drawn with luck, the player still gets to determine where to place the tiles and in what direction to move. And the challenges add another bit of strategy because each player gets 3 gold challenges and 3 bat challenges during the game and they get to decide when that's most advantageous.

And we have to also mention that Gold Mine has fantastic components!

Gold Mine is a really fun group game that is easy to learn but still challenging to win. Also, my 3 & 4yr olds are learning how to match the pathways together, how to count, & how to take turns. It really brings the family together and we only expected it to be an adult game because we first played it at a game night with friends. It's also original and has optional rules you can get off the Stratus Games website. We take out the challenges when playing with the kids. Glad we bought it & totally recommend it to any one!

This game is a great game, it is lots of fun, and very cool. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to experiment with strategy type games. I've played it many times with my family, and everyone enjoys it alot!

In this game you build your own board, move around in it and collect gold. It's really cool and exciting.

Gold Mine: 2-6 Players, Ages 8+, Average Play Time = 30-60 Minutes

First, I want to commend Stratus Games on yet another awesome tutorial video (see official website). I can't speak for anyone else, but videos like these go a long way into improving customer satisfaction. The video was clear and concise, complimenting the manual nicely. The components themselves are sturdy and pleasing to the eyes. Keep up the excellent work!

Learning the game didn't take all that long, and teaching it to the kids took even less time. Our first game fell well within the box's recommended play time, and I can safely say that Vinnie (11) had an overall positive experience. I think part of what appealed to him the most was drawing that new tile, just to see how the board's current layout would change. He seemed to take perverse pleasure in initiating challenges to try and set me back. The challenger does have a slight advantage, however the dice can still turn against you and cause your plans to backfire. Despite my best efforts, Vinnie walloped me 10-4, drawing gold cavern tiles like no one's business. I tried using bats to keep him away from the newly placed tile, but luck was on his side for the majority of the game.

On top of the standard game, there are plenty of variants out there to help keep the game fresh. Mud puddles, for example, are ignored in the normal game, but serve to slow down players when making use of the variant. The Stratus Games website has a good list of variants available.

All in all, Gold Mine is a fun, casual game that I can see appealing to people of all ages. There is a little luck involved, what with drawing good tiles and rolling good numbers on the die, but there's a good bit of thinking involved as well.

Gold Mine is probably the most fun game I have played in quite some time. It is easy to learn and quick to setup. The board changes each and every time, thus creating a unique board each time you play. It is great at teaching strategy, teamwork, and problem solving. I recommend this game to all persons.
