I second the reaction to this performance as already reviewed here. It's a fine performance with a good cast (Oralia Dominguez as Arabella's mother, no less!!!), and in very good sound. Those unfamiliar with this opera may want to check a libretto first since OdO's plot summary reads too much like French farce.

Siegmund Nimsgern won 1st prize in a contest for his demanding role as Mandryka in 'Arabella'. With Caballe as Arabella, you have a sensational cast. Just listen to R. Strauss' gorgeous music-some of Arabella's arias. And here is R. Strauss in a lighter mood, as compared to Salome, Elektra.
What a great value for such a wonderful performance!!

For Caballé lovers, this is a rare treasure. As far as I know, this is her only Arabella recording,a live 1973 performance in Rome. The sound is quite good. Nimsgern is an adequate Mandryka, though he lacks the sensual warmth of Wolfgang Brendel. I rather wish I could splice Brendel into the scenes with Caballé. There is the added luxury of tenor René Kollo as Matteo.
