Another example of the record companies gone mad. Why on earth BMG/RCA has deleted this from the catalog is beyond my understanding, particularly when the performances are as vital and wonderful as these. The sound is warm and Boston Pops play with marvellous feeling for this music, a real tribute to how much Fiedler loved this music. It is hard to believe these recordings date from the mid 1950's. I was fortunate enough to find this disc in a used cd store recently and if you can find it, I highly recommend snatching it up. It will be hard to find a more enjoyable disc of Strauss music.

At long last I am able to relive a childhood memory of late night radio. On this CD you will hear the 'Bahn Frei Polka' that frantic upbeat sound that signled the begining and end of the nightly Jean Shepherd Radio Broadcasts.

Amazon, you are making it too hard by adding this requirement -- my Title says it all. But the seller is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gosh, this is swell! Has the Jean Shepherd theme!, March 30, 2007

The rollicking, horse-racey theme titled 'Bahn Frei Polka' was used for many years by Jean Shepherd as his lead-in radio theme. It begins with the 'Call to the Post' bugle blast, and until recently I was under the delusion that the 'Bahn Frei Polka' was simply the full-length concert version of 'Call to the Post'! These analog recordings date mostly to the late 40s, and they would be hard to improve upon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excitement, January 8, 2003

I have been trying forever to find Bahn Frie which is part of this CD. It begins with the bugle call to the post at the race track, thus the nickname "race track polka" Carl Desuse played it as his opening theme song on Wor radio (9 p.m.)in New york City. Each night he played it in its entirety and you would find yourself junping around in your seat. Finally I found it and hope to play it every day for the rest of my life. Desuse was a great storyteller.
