Hermann Baumann is one of the two best players on the modern horn. His recording of the Strauss Concerti is not only heroic, it's beautiful. His mellow sound is the envy of horn players everywhere. The Weber Concertino is also a wonderful piece in which the highlight is the multiphonics in the cadenza. Listen for him playing two notes at once - it's incredible.

I've been looking for this CD for years...literally, years. I knew it existed on CD but had only seen it once - in a library. It is, in my opinion, one of the best horn recordings of all time. Baumann's deep, rich tone fits the grandeur of the Strauss concertos like a glove. His performance of Strauss 1, in particular, has become the one which I base ALL others on. The weber is also incredible, not just the multiphonics, but also the speed at which he takes the fast sections. An absolute must have for ANY horn player.

Baumann is the best german horn player, the world best for Strauss, if you don't know about him, you don`t know anything about french horn.
