5.0 out of 5 stars A moving performance, June 1, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Strauss: Der Rosenkavalier (Audio CD)
I don't know why there are so many people who dislike this
version. The music Karajan produced in his late career is
warmer, lighter and more glowing than before. All those
qualities are essential to this opera. Just listen to the
final trio, you can know why this performance is better than
the Krajan-EMI, which is emotionaly cooler.

5.0 out of 5 stars A phenomenal recording, April 19, 2006

From the POV of an opera student, this recording is beyond impressive. I also have the DVD w/ the cast, and both blow me away completely. Anna Tomowa-Sintow is a gorgeous Marschallin, Agnes Baltsa truly shines as Octavian, and Janet Perry's Sophie is sweet and adorable. I don't get what's all the fussing about this recording at all but... to me, this recording does not lose to the 1956 one w/ Schwartzkopf/Ludwig/Stitch-Randall (which I also own) at all!

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly great recording of 20th century., March 14, 2010
This review is from: Strauss: Der Rosenkavalier (Audio CD)

Cannot understand how could someone put a negative statement on this
great recording. For real Opera connoisseurs, this is one of the highest
achievements in Opera history and one of the greatests landmarks in the
whole Karajan discography. Karajan borders on heaven in this recording,
the vocal staff is colossal and the Vienna Philharmonic has never sounded
with so high levels of beauty, fire, voluptuosity, spirit and depuration.
The result is a jewel for a lifetime. Shame on detractors!
