A few months ago I stumbled across Vicktoria Mullova's gorgeous recording of the Stravinsky Divertimento and instantly fell in love with the beauty and originality that I was hearing. Jasper Wood was featured in the Nov 2003 issue of the Strad and is a teacher of a good friend of mine. Mr Wood plays an incredibly sweet sounding Strad and plays with emoptional warmth, and musical conviction that can not be denied. When I spoke to my friend about my discovery of the Divertimento, she mentioned this CD and of course I had to get it because of my curiousity of the talents of Mr Wood and the other works by Stravisky I have never heard before. Perhaps Stravinsky's uniqueness comes from the fact that he was influenced by jazz music. I find that the most modern of all music is the blend of jazz and classical music. If you are looking for a CD of fresh violin works that you probably haven't heard that doesn't sound like anything else you've ever heard do not hesitate to get this. I can also fully recommend the Mullova recording of the Stravinsky Divertimento and Mr Wood's recording of the Caprices by Sophie-Carmen Eckhardt-Gramatte and Gary Kulesha.
This CD contains all pieces by Stravinsky including:
Suite Italienne, Divertimento, Duo concertante, some selections from The Firebird Suite, and Chanson Russe.

This is a definitive performance of these pieces, especially the Divertimento. Don't hesitate, buy it.
