This review is from: Stravinsky: Rite of Spring; Britten: Four Sea Interludes; Walton: Portsmouth Point Overture; Mussorgsky: Khovanshchina Prelude; Lyadov: Kikimora (Audio CD)
This is a great CD especially for those who like 20th century music. The main work on the CD is The Rite of Spring played live in concert. But it would be a misnomer to say that this is the only thing worth getting on this CD as it has a total timing in excess of 70 minutes!
The CD starts out with Walton's Portsmouth Point Overture done as only it seems as the British can do it. Then come Britten's moody and sometimes turbulent Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes. This is followed by Mussorgsky's Khovanshchina Prelude and Lyadov's Kikomora which are both relatively short orchestral cupcakes. Then comes Stravinsky's Rite of Spring which ends in exhaustion. It's enough music to fill up a night of listening. This is fairly well engineered recording considering it is live and the constraints and problems that this poses acoustically. The sponataneity of the music making is what gets me excited the most about this CD. There is a certain fire and flair with what is going on here that makes this a one of a kind find. So my advice is if you are interested at all in the contents in this CD, then purchase it. I recommend it highly.

We ordered this CD for Stravinsky's Rite of Spring and Walton's Portsmouth Point Overture. Walton is superb and met all our expectations. We are completely pleased because of this one track.
