Warning: Cliffhanger., July 25, 2008
This review is from: Strawberry Panic: The Manga, Vol. 2 (Paperback)
Strawberry Panic! is a story about teenage lesbian romance: it focuses on three Catholic schools totally closed off from the outside world and the men in it.
In this volume, the Etoile competition--that is, the competition to decide what couple should represent all three schools--moves into full swing. 17 year old Shizuma and her darling 15 year old Nagisa are competing against 16 year old "Prince" Amane and her girlfriend, fragile 14 year old Hikaru. Both teams face challenges and romance.
It's a lot of sugary fun, but there's a problem: THERE'S NO ENDING. This volume is the last manga volume of Strawberry Panic!, and it finishes only halfway through the competition. Wonderful as the art and story were, it's hard to recommend SP! to others when I'm dying to know what happens and simply never will. (True, there are two other versions of SP!--an anime and a book--but the story is somewhat different in each version, so it's hard to say if the manga will end the same way.)
SP! is worth reading for a fun story, nice artwork (facial expressions are particularly good) and lots of sexual tension (quite a bit more than in the anime) between likeable characters. But if you must know how a story ends, this isn't recommended.

Manga to the greatest story ever told!, November 25, 2010
This review is from: Strawberry Panic: The Manga, Vol. 2 (Paperback)
I'm a HUGE fan of the Anime...so I wanted to see how the story first began. Like most Manga, the story is slightly different from the Anime but still includes most of the cast and major plot points. For any fan of the series or the yuri genre, this Manga is for you!
