Product Description

Strawberry Shortcake is planning a first birthday party for her sister Apple Dumpling, so she sets off on an adventure to find the perfect party supplies (juice, cookies, a cake and party hats) and makes five new friends (Orange Blossom, Angel Cake, Ginger Snap, Honey Pie Pony and Huckleberry) along the way.

Amazon.com

Strawberry Shortcake is throwing a party for her little sister Apple Dumpling's first birthday. After making a list of the supplies they'll need, Strawberry Shortcake, Apple Dumpling, their cantankerous cat Custard, and their overly enthusiastic puppy Cupcake consult the map and head out into Strawberry land in search of things like juice, cake, and party hats. The adventuresome group meets lots of new friends like Gingersnap, Orange Blossom, and Huckleberry Pie, and learns to value friendship and diversity along the way. Certain plot points, such as a journey with a map and a cat who writes with its tail, serve as an over-sweetened, 1980s premonition of newer shows like Dora the Explorer and Sagwa while the automated cookie machine begs comparison to the 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Nonetheless, girls ages 2 to 6 will very likely gobble-up this animated show like a bowl of breakfast cereal--but hopefully not the strawberry-scented DVD box. DVD features include English and Spanish audio, English and Spanish subtitles, and a music video. --Tami Horiuchi

Custard, Strawberry's cat, is all about her own species.

Anyway, my kids love the show so - my curiosity aside - in the end this is all that really matters.

My daughter received this for Christmas last year and has watched it 20 times or more!

I got to curl up with my five-year-old daughter last night and watch this DVD with her, something she has been begging me to do since I brought it home for her the other day. I myself was never a big fan of the original, but my daughters both love all things sticky-sweet! And this filled the bill.

Strawberry Shortcake has never been strong on story line, and apparently never will be judging by this new version. It's basically a silly story about two sisters, (one a baby!) who live in a world completely devoid of adults. They decide to celebrate Apple Dumpling's birthday, (this being the baby sister) and set off to journey around their strange child-world looking for things they will need- cake, cookies, juice, ect. And surprise- they make many new friends along the way!

The things I like- the animation is lovely and colorful, the interaction between Strawberry Shortcake and her baby sister is great- every mother's unrealized dream for their sibling children. (Too bad they don't have one to appreciate it!)

The things I don't like- her horrible cat, Custard. Her puppy can't talk, and you'll quickly wish this rude cat couldn't, either. And of course, a little story line improvement wouldn't hurt!

Still, I have to give it four stars because Strawberry Shortcake never claims to be more than it is, which is the purest form of entertainment for little girls. Nothing more, nothing less! My daughter was completely captivated, giggling and glowing through the entire program- which was at least her fifth or sixth viewing. She especially loves Pupcake, the little blue puppy that is always getting into trouble. I smiled a lot too, but mostly at my ridiculously happy daughter!

My daughter just started taking an interest in Strawberry Shortcake after we purchased a SSC book for her. We gave her this DVD for her 3rd birthday and she has watched it countless times since!
This adorable DVD introduces Strawberry Shortcake and her friends to new SSC fans. Pupcake, Custard, Ginger Snap, Angel Cake, Orange Blossom and Huckleberry Pie are introduced in this story as Strawberry goes on a hunt for treats for her sister Apple Dumpling's bday. She meets Ginger, Angel, Orange and Huckleberry along the way.
My daughter and her big brother enjoy watching this DVD with its colorful and bright visuals, bouncy songs, cheerful characters (excepting Custard, that is) and themes of friendship and helping one another. As a parent, I give it two thumbs up!! The only complaint I may have would be the portrayal of Custard as a grumpy, whiny little cat but at least by the end she learns to appreciate differences in others. And why does Custard talk but Pupcake doesn't? Anyway, my kids love the show so - my curiosity aside - in the end this is all that really matters.

I was a huge fan of strawberry shortcake when I was a little girl and when I found out that she was coming back out I was just so excited. I bought the DVD for my god-daughter and she loves it. She knows all strawberry shortcakes friends and just adores her little sister apple dumplin and the cutest thing is that the DVD actually smells like strawberries. This was the best gift I have gotten her in a long time and I just love watching it with her and singing along to all the cute songs. I recommend this to any strawberry shortcake fan out there.

This is a great movie to watch with your little girl. I love the moral of the story. Strawberry World is kind of like walking through Candyland. It's very nice that when Strawberry Shortcake meets a new friend they have a theme song. My only complaint would be the rude and grumpy cat Custard. Pupcake tries to play with her and she acts like a snob. This is a yummy movie and can't wait to watch the others with my daughter!

The lowest rating you can give it is one star - it deserves none.
When I found out that my childhood favorite, Strawberry Shortcake was back, I was so excited . . . until I went to the store and saw the new SSC toys and and this episode playing in the electronics center of my local wal-mart. I have the original dolls and a few of the original cartoons - this is NOTHING at all like the original SSC. I can't believe other people wrote reviews stating that the new SSC is the same as what they grew up with. It is NOT the SSC of the eighties - the voices are done by different people; the cartoons look nothing like the videos, coloring books, or stickers from the 80s; and the dolls, as most of today's dolls do, look anorexic in comparison to the originals. This is a very poor imitation for those looking for the SSC of the 80s. At least when they brought back the Care Bears, the cartoons were the same, and the plush dolls were the same or very similar.

This DVD is berry, berry good. I loved it.
Strawberry Shortcake's little sister,Apple Dumplin,is having a birthday today! So they need to go out and get some cookies, a cake, fruit, juice and party hats.First she needs to go to Cookie Corners to get the cookies 'cause there's not a better place to get cookies than Cookie Corners, because of Ginger Snap's amazing cookie-making machine. They also go to Angel Cake's cake shop,Orange Blossom's...oh I forget the name of it,and they meet Honeypie. And they stop at one more place to get some party hats. After they get everything...its time to have the party! Its time to have the party! Its time to have the party! And they invite all of their new friends. The End.
A Bonus: Here is something you never would have expected ,the DVD case smells like strawberries.
