This is a cute, generously illustrated book about being thankful during a Thanksgiving-type meal. Given the subject matter - both the Strawberry Shortcake brand and the food theme - it has a lot of long and compound words (Huckleberry, potatoes, Orange Blossom, etc.) for a "Level 1" book. However, it also uses a lot of sentence structure repetition. Kids who are familiar with the brand, and who have a parent help them out the first few times, should be able to use context clues to decipher the bigger words. For a little girl who loves Strawberry Shortcake, it would make a nice gift for Thanksgiving or another time when family gets together around a big table.
