Book Description

Erin Timms took a new job as a veterinarian in Sunshine, Colorado for two important reasons: to get away from her ex, and to give herself a chance at a new life. But when devastating news of her ex follows her there, she begins to think she has made a terrible mistake.

Tall, stunning-looking Jon Miles had only one goal: to save the mountain canyon where Sunshine is located from businessmen who want to exploit it. But how can he do that when he is already an outcast?

There was nothing to suggest they’d ever meet, much less strike a spark of red-hot romance. Except that Erin can never turn away a stray. . .

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! June 25, 2014

What I liked about this book was that it didn't take the route of a normal romance story. I liked that it was different. Erin was a wonderful, loving, kindhearted veterinarian and Jon was a sweet, sexy, ambitious business man that had a few things to learn about himself. I loved it :)

3.0 out of 5 stars Just Okay June 26, 2014

This story is told in first person, alternating between the two main characters.

Since there is no warning in the book description, readers should know that this book contains very graphic sex scenes, which were okay, although I did find myself skimming over them after the first one.

The heroine, Erin, was a vet and newcomer in a small town, escaping from a relationship gone bad. I liked her and her innocent nature. I did enjoy the whole background story of the small town, various veterinary situations, her spoiled vet tech and the local politics and characters.

The hero, Jon, was a mystery (no spoilers here). I did not like him, and I didn't like that Erin would go for a guy like that. But we should all forgive and move on. Except, Jon does it again (the whole Facebook thing) in an improbable scenario (but hey, this is fiction). And when Erin lets him off the hook for Just no. Jon has a major character flaw that Erin is going to completely ignore. I will concede that I wasn't interested in the sex scenes because I just didn't feel the connection between the two characters, or rather, I just didn't approve of it.

And then the author uses the epilogue to wrap everything up in a tidy bow. Almost silly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy Read July 24, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Let me start off by saying that I love animals and I love books. With that being said, I knew I would like this book.

Erin Timms is starting a new life in a small town. Her ex-boyfriend that she supported through medical school broke up with her when he graduated. Later, she found out that he cheated on her with one of her so-called friends. She ends up moving from Dallas, TX to Sunshine, Colorado to see if small-town life is better for her. Erin started working with the local vet in hopes that when he retired she would take over and buy his practice.

Jon Miles is in Sunshine, CO on business. He is currently dating Ashleigh, who is the daughter of the CEO of a resort in town. He is trying to save the small town from theresort overtaking it, and will do anything to make sure there is no more damage to the canyon.

One Friday night right after the vet closed for the night, there was banging on the front door by a man holding a dog who is obviously hurt. Not being able to turn them away Erin opened the door and let them in. John Miles explained that the Golden Retriever had been hit by a car and that the dog didnt belong to him. He doesn’t mention that Ashleigh is the one who hit the dog and told him that she wished she would have killed the mangy dog when she hit him. Thank goodness Jon is an animal lover and did everything in his power to help the dog they call Max, including pay for all of the medical expenses. They have an instant attraction, but Erin will not give him the time of day since she knows he has a girlfriend.

With fighting the new resort, Erin helps Jon gain the trust of some of the shareholders, but will it be enough?

I enjoyed the story some what but something's were lost on me, Erin and Jon have chemistry from the get go but Erin puts Jon off because of his girlfriend, who's the CEO's daughter of the resort that wants to come in that Jon is trying to stop. I'm torn with Jon's character, he's sexy and I liked him with Erin but he's manipulative and sneaky and a liar, whatever his reasons doesn't matter. I liked Erin, I love animals so love that she's a Vet and Jon can't stay away once he brings in a dog after being hit. I wasn't totally sold on all the other characters or side story but the story was good, the writing style god too. Just not great, flow was a off. 3.5 stars review by Nanee at

5.0 out of 5 stars Best romance novel yet May 12, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Well this was a sensational story! Set in the canyon town of Sunshine, it tells the tale of two people who never would have met if it wasn't for chance. I think this is probably the best story I've read by this author so far.

If you're into emotional stories with characters you can really care for, then this is the one for you. I loved it.

1.0 out of 5 stars I hate door mats July 23, 2014

Wait just one second, did she not have sex with him when she knew he had a girlfriend. She needs to get off her high horse, she was the "other " women and knew it but because she was only doing it for one night, that was ok, at the time.

Really, if my friend New my boy friend was cheating on me and never told me. They are worse than him. But she says they are better than no friends. Dear God, give the girl some self respect. It's just sad and I can't stand any of them.

Ending seemed rush. Just didn't like it

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected. A good read July 15, 2014

Stray surprised me. I started reading it and almost put it right back down again since I didn't think I would enjoy it. It starts off pretty quick with Erin and Jon meeting and being super attracted to each other. This follows some self loving by both of them thinking of the other and it just seemed like alright, this is just going to be a sex book with no real story (or light story). I was surprised that after that it really wasn't. It focused more on the story, and yes there was some sex but it wasn't the only thing happening like I had thought originally.

Erin's boyfriend left her once he graduated medical school leaving her pretty upset. He didn't sound very good, was always telling her how being a vet is not a real doctor and such. She paid for everything while they were both in school so she was pretty angry when he just left her. Since she is hurt and angry she decides to try small town life when she sees an ad for a vet wanted. The guy who owns the clinic is thinking of retiring soon so she would hopefully be able to buy the practice and have her own place one day.

Jon is the son of one of the shareholders for the resort. The people in Sunshine hate resort people. Why? Well when the original people came to the town to make the resort they promised to be environmentally friendly and keep it small, not this massive horrible mess that they have now. Since the founders lied to the town the town is none too happy with the people who now own the resort. Jon, however, is not like the others. He is secretly trying to get enough people to vote with him so he can oust the current CEO and chairman of the board and try to and save Sunshine. The resort wants to put up yet another high rise hotel which would kill the valley.

4.0 out of 5 stars Typical Chick Novel
The plot had a few interesting side stories. Would have been better if only Ashleigh had used the crude language. Max was the best.

You've got to be kidding me!
Lots of down votes for any review (even if well written) below 4 are an indicator of author manipulation in my opinion.
