5.0 out of 5 stars Streamlight Litebox: Now you're ready for that power outage

I would consider the Litebox as a "lantern" and not a flashlight. My definition of a lantern is that they are usually larger and can't fit into your pocket.

The design has great potential, the tilt head, you can use this hands-free, but
the halogen lamp did not produce an even or powerful beam. It is not properly matched to the mirror.

Furthermore the focus of the beam can not be adjusted, you are told to disassemble it
and try to move the lamp holder, this does not improve anything. The lens cover is...

Make sure you have one of these in your hurricane or earthquake preparedness kit!

I would consider the Litebox as a "lantern" and not a flashlight. My definition of a lantern is that they are usually larger and can't fit into your pocket.

Although it's fairly large and heavy (due to the battery), you can't go wrong with this bad boy! Supposedly used by many fire departments, I can see why they use them: Heavy duty plastic casing, comfort handle, thin penetrating beam (although you can buy different lamp modules so you can have a broader beam), long run time. The head can also swivel up and down, so it can be a good work light.

Would I buy it again? Possibly. The limiting factor is the price. But this is from a quality manufacturer and is a quality product.

5.0 out of 5 stars hard core light, September 26, 2005

This a 'bad boy' light. It is quite bright, and lasts a long time on a charge. It is heavy, but you can set it down and adjust the swivel head. Yes, this light is used by many fire deptments. if you want a light that will last and last on a single charge this is the way to go. Sure it's over a hundred bucks, but this light is a serious tool, and will last for years and years. My battery just gave out, (after about 7 years) and I got a replacement for under $20. If you like high quality, hardcore stuff, this light will not let you down

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny!, September 30, 2008

I was a volunteer firefighter when I was younger and these were the lights that we had on the trucks. When I wanted a reliable wall-mounted rechargeable light I didn't hesitate to spend the extra cash for this light.

I have used it during 2 power outages in the last few years and the light output is incredible. It is so bright the I turned it on, aimed it at the ceiling and we used it as a primary light source in our house until the lights came back on. My neighbor looked in our house and asked how we got our lights back on and I had to explain that it was the Lightstream.

5.0 out of 5 stars great!, September 4, 2011

Awesome flashlight. Nice and powerful, and reliable. I work for an utility company and need this for any emergencies at night.

I recommend this product... very reliable.

Has a spot lens... so it's not very good for lighting up an entire room.. it's good for aiming at far things and if you need strong light ina small location. However you can purchase the different lens that gives Flood lighting.

I have used these lights for 20+ years in the fire service and over 5 years as a fire investigator. They are bullet-proof and Streamlight stands behind their high quality products. You can't go wrong with this lantern. These are the industry standard; you will find them on almost any piece of fire apparatus!

This is an exceptional lantern I bought for my husband for Christmas. He loves the size of it and the fact that he can direct the beam anywhere and have his hands free. Very pleased with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good light., March 17, 2004
By A Customer
First I should say that I have the 20 watt flood type light rather than the 8 watt spot, so all my experiences are with that one.

That said, this is the best portable light I've ever used. It's very, very bright, has reasonable battery life (3 hours with the 20 watt), and a nice selection of assessors.

The construction of the Litebox is very heavy duty and it holds up well.

Changing the bulbs is easy, just pull the ring around the lens off, unscrew the light housing and pull the old bulb out. You can use either the 8 or 20 watt bulbs in the light, so upgrading is pretty strait forward.

The rechargeable batteries are great, since a light this powerful would chew through alkalis in short order. The lead-acid battery makes it pretty heavy though.

One feature that no one mentions in the descriptions is that the head swivels into several positions so the light can be used for area lighting easily.

All in all, this is a wonderful light and I would recommend it highly to anyone who needs a good, high powered flashlight.

The lens cover is also

easily scratched plastic.

With a proper bulb mirror and lens this would be lovely, perhaps an LED version is available now?
