Customer Questions & Answers

Customer Reviews

The UV light isn't very bright and the expensive specialty battery's don't last very long.
Anthony Moore
I use primarily for checking IDs, and the brightness of both the LED and the UV lamps are more than sufficient for the job.
David K. Tornstrom
The white light is nice and bright, the UV intensity is good, and the light can take a beating.

OK, this is your basic handheld "tactical" format LED flashlight, with the added functionality of six UV LEDs of two different wavelengths arranged around the outside of the reflector (3x 365nm and 3x 390nm.) Main "C4" (in Streamlight-speak) LED apparently is a Cree XR-E in a cool tint. I purchased this light mostly because I had a gift card to burn, and was looking for a UV light in any case. The combination of a regular LED flashlight and UV light in one durable body would seem to make this ideal for an auto mechanic, HVAC tech, etc. I am not a professional mechanic but do work on cars more than your average guy so this seemed like a good buy. My usual light when I need something better than a pocket light is a Surefire 6P that I've fitted with a Malkoff M61L Nichia 219 drop-in and a Malkoff MD2 tailcap (with "McClicky" forward clicky switch) and am running it on two AW protected RCR123A cells. The Streamlight is very comparable to that 6P in both size and functionality, the obvious differences being that the Nichia 219 is a high-CRI emitter and that the Streamlight has a low mode and the UV LEDs. They are so similar, in fact, and the 6P being such a popular light, that I can't help but compare the two when trying to describe some features of the Night Com UV.

1) Other than the tapered body behind the head, the Night Com is almost exactly the same size and shape as my Surefire 6P (which is slightly longer than a standard 6P due to the Malkoff MD2 tailcap.) In fact if I take off the lanyard ring, and/or am careful to insert it with the protrusion in one of the "corners" of the holster, it'll fit in the Surefire V27 leather holster (mine is old and a little stretched out at the top, which is perfect for the Night Com.

This flashlight feels well built and the light is bright at each setting. However, after 3 days the low led setting of the switch failed. I still get UV and Hi led. Thinking I should have gone with the Strion. My Stinger has been a solid light. So, I think Streamlight makes a good product. They may have just fallen short of the quality of the switch for this light.

I am a nondestructive testing inspector(level 3). I work with high end instruments that can cost thousands of dollars. Having said that, I bought this thinking it would basically be a 'toy' as compared to my certified lights. But this little guy packs a punch and really exceeded my expectations. This thing is on me for my visible light and UV inspections, as an aid. My certified lights are still there to document for my reports. That's all I got, enjoy

So the flashlight worked great and the batteries lasted longer than I thought they would. However, after 2 weeks use the dial started acting up and shortly after the flashlight would only stay on while holding the button down. Hopefully customer service handles this issue promptly as it is used for work purposes.

Used this for a few weeks now and I'm pleased. The white LED is bright enough for police work, even on the low setting. I keep it on low to conserve battery life, but so far have not had to change the batteries. The UV setting works, and I'm able to find a lot of interesting bits of evidence that would evade the naked eye in normal light. It makes a lot of interesting things glow. It's a little awkward to keep in your pocket as it tends to shift around and the lanyard doesn't really translate to having a good carry option, but there are ways around that problem.

You can never have too many flashlights on duty. I carry this one in my duty bag which sits on my front passenger seat. Its UV Light is great for suspicious licenses, as you can use it to illuminate the hidden seals. GREAT LIGHT

The light is great all around. Bright LED and and the two wavelengths of UV are great, works for most things designed to be seen with UV light. The only thing I would change would be the selector switch. It seems solid, but a sealed button or multiple buttons I think might be better. At least with the switch though, you don't have to cycle through the functions with one button.
