This headlamp was given a good review in Backpacker Magazine and when I saw the price, I couldn't pass it up. Nice, very light headlamp. Not sure why they use the over-the-head strap? The light is so light that the headband alone would be fine but that's a picky issue. I also bought the Burton RL4 Brunton RL4, 3 White & 1 Red LED Headlampat the same time, like both equally. The Streamlight has a longer focused beam throw while the Brunton has wider spread and a red LED feature I like when I don't want to mess up my night vision. For the price of the Streamlight 61400, you can't lose.

I purchased this headlamp to wear while running in the ragnar relay race.( a headlamp is required as the race goes all night and is in some remote areas. I was worried that it would be either uncomfortable being tight or keep slipping off my head while running. But neither was true at all. It didnt slip one bit and it was actually quite comfortable. The light was bright enough for the purpose intended.

Purchased through Amazon, this Streamlight 61400 throws out light equivalent to the heavy headlamps of the past. While the older lights used 14-53 LEDs, the Streamlight uses only one! On Amazon I purchased the Petzl E91 PO Tikkina 2 Headlamp at the same time. A comparison is useful.

I find the Streamlight high beam perfect for night use and the low beam suitable only for close reading. The lamp could use a middle power. The Petzl has the same 2 LED settings, but achieves a better compromise.

While it uses only 2 AAA batteries compared with 3 AAAs for the Petzl, the unit seems heavier. The Petzl has a flat lamp 2 LED design with a wide rubber base resting comfortably against your forehead. The Streamlight uses a bullet lamp with a very small rubber disk strapped against your forehead, so the lamp tends to hang uncomfortably. It is not suitable for longer periods of reading.

The Streamlight 61400 has an unusually difficult battery case with an opening to the side of the forward-facing lamp. The cover is attached to the case with an elastic strap. You need tiny fingers to twist the battery cover open and you struggle to close it after inserting the batteries. I spent ten minutes at this until the unit finally lit up. I dread having to change the batteries.

Due to the bullet lamp design, LED power issue, and battery case problem I would not recommend this lamp.

Excellent product at reasonable price. I like the two AAA battery feature, becausse it is light and convenient to recharge if we use rechargeable batteries. Recommended.

This was the rave at our last group camping trip. All the kids wanted one. Ofcourse, we only had enough for our kids + 2 more (which were supposed to be for us parents) to lend. Then I saw it for a little less @ Target. Think of all the things you'll need light for hands free: preping/cleaning meals after sunset, going to the porta pottie, etc. Who wants to scramble with the flash light in one hand while doing your business? A must have on your next camping trip.

I know Streamlight to make some of the best flashlights in the world. But, this light did not live up to that expectation. I knew I would be unsatisfied with the quality when I hit the On button with one finger and inadvertantly wiped off the Streamlight logo and part number printing located next to the button. If they weren't proud enough to print their logo with any better paint than that...well, then I knew something wasn't right.

Their smart use of a single bulb is impressive, but the functionality is no good for what I need it for. I need a strong/wide array of light around my hands and up to 6' away. This light projects a small, focused beam in that range of distance. You can, if you chose, adjust the beam by turning the lens cap. But, prepare for the lens cap to be very loose and annoying to you because the light is not apparently designed to adjust.
I found the beam to get dim faster than advertised. It might stay lit as long as they say, but the brightness is too low to use at about 1/2 the time.

I would recommend for use in camping or the like, but not for daily use for people who work with their hands.

I've had this headlamp for a couple of weeks now and have already put it to great use in the woods and even when our power went out. The ability to change from low to high beam is great and the amount of light it spreads is more than adequate. Comfort and angle adjustments are simple. No complaints whatsoever.

My nephew turned me onto this headlamp while camping. While I was fumbling with a flashlight, he just walked around with the `Streamlight' like it was daytime. It is certainly bright enough and lightweight, plus the straps make it comfortable and keep it on your head while you may bend over or under something. It also has a low and a high beam for certain uses. In a garage or basement, the high beam works great to see everything and if working on a car engine (or underneath) the low beam is perfect. If your house lights go out, this is much safer and brighter than using candles or holding a flashlight. You can wear this on your head while cooking over a Coleman stove! The entire lighting works on only two AAA batteries.

Another reason I like it for camping is that it is waterproof and the lens is polycarbonate, which makes it very durable and impact resistant. It's lightweight and comfortable. It surprising when I think about all the times I went without one. I consider this a safety necessity. There are other headlamps on the market, but for this price, I can't think of a better deal.
