5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality Slim Penlight
I use this penlight everyday at work. This light is very bright. This is a great neuro assessment tool. Use it like a pen to check your patient's Babinski reflex. Great for checking your patient's pupils. Use it length-wise on your patient's nailbeds to check for response to light pain.
Additionally if you work long nights like I do, this is a great tool to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great
Though this is a well-made flashlight, it is imperfect for everyday use in a couple of ways.

The exposed LED makes it very fragile -- drop it on the floor just once, and it's dead. There is an accessory soft black plastic cap that covers the LED and narrows the beam, but mine broke quickly.

The twist switch to turn it on and off also sets how far you...

5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality Slim Penlight, July 30, 2008

I use this penlight everyday at work. This light is very bright. This is a great neuro assessment tool. Use it like a pen to check your patient's Babinski reflex. Great for checking your patient's pupils. Use it length-wise on your patient's nailbeds to check for response to light pain.

Additionally if you work long nights like I do, this is a great tool to check on your patients without turning on the lights unnecessarily. I use this to check foley and chest tube output in the dark.

Are you in the ER? Have a psych patient sleeping that you need to check on? Shine this high intensity low spread light on your patient's chest all the way from the door to observe the rise and fall of their chest without waking them up.

This would make a great gift to a new RN grad. Looks professional. Not bulky like some other penlights I've seen. Clip ensures it won't fall out of your scrub pocket.

5.0 out of 5 stars Green With UV, December 17, 2010
By
Jake FOGERTY (British Columbia, Canada) - See all my reviews
I picked this puppy up yesterday from a shop called MD Charlton. This is my second Streamlight product that I've purchased within the last few weeks. The first one (Streamlight 51010 Twin-Task UV flashlight) I bought through Amazon.com because they had the best price and availability.

Here is the reason as to why I ended up buying the UV penlight, even though my other torch is equipped with a black-light.

I have recently begun collecting, uranium depression glass. I needed a discreet UV light, when I visit the secondhand stores. I don't want to appear silly or suspicious to the shop owners and the customers, when I aim the light at various glassware! This is the only way you can distinguish if it is in fact the collectible item I am seeking.

It is quite the sight when you do find the depression glass. It glows a neat frosty greenish colour because the uranium in the composition of the glass, absorbs the UV rays. So far I've scored a liquor decanter ($3.99) and a candlestick holder ($1.49).

Google the said glass and you will see for yourself how it appears when you throw the black-light on it.

Beware, that there are a number of incorrect reviews regarding this item. The not so swift reviewers are referring to an ordinary run of-the-mill LED flashlight. If you use this UV light as some have suggested, you will cause permanent damage to the eyes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy little light, September 3, 2009
This review is from: Streamlight 65012 Stylus 6-1/4-Inch Penlight with Pocket Clip and White LED, Silver (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this with the idea of replacing my battery eating incandescent pen light I have used throughout medical school. Unfortunately, as with most LEDs the light is far too "white" to accurately assess say a sore throat for erythema. It is also too bright for pupillary light reflexes. Around the house for odd and end jobs though, this puppy rocks. I rarely use my maglight these days with this light around.

The twist switch to turn it on and off also sets how far you have to push the tail for momentary light, and there is nothing to lock it in place.

The "AAAA" batteries are ridiculously expensive and hard to find, but here's a tip: carefully disassemble a standard 9V battery (peel back the metal sleeve with needle-nose pliers), and inside you'll find six "AAAA" cells. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice small spot UV light., October 5, 2010
Several reviews for the UV Streamlight 65069 are actually for the 65012 Streamlight which is a very bright white LED. That's a bit confusing.

The 65069 UV version is a good one that is more suitable for close-in illumination. The visible light filter makes it look dim but the UV content is high and the small size of the light makes it a handy pocket accessory.

5.0 out of 5 stars AAAA, January 28, 2010

firstly, i dont own this but the concept is amazing for the price.

obviously, anything with a non-marking tip can be a stylus. anything that wont scratch or mark on the screens of pdas and such. however the LED feature is to die for. basically because i would never go and buy AAAA batteries from some highdollar store, nor order them online. the trick people is a 9V batterypack. simply take some pliers and pull the hard shell off of a 9V and you have 6 AAAA in your hand. they're unmarked, sadly so you need to do a voltage test OR just trace the polarity as they are in the package, it's pretty obvious with each cell connected end to end.

Purchased product to use for desktop review of non-destructive testing (FPI) results. Works as intended plus fits in your shirt pocket. Does not replace the requirement for a calibrated blacklight and darkened reading booth, but is very useful in other areas of the shop.

This is a great little tool, compact and powerful. It's useful anywhere you need a little bit of UV light. I can see stores keeping one behind a register to quickly check currency (US paper currency has markings that flouresce under UV light). Most state IDs and credit cards also have UV markings that are hard to counterfeit. Mechanics can use this to check for leaks in your AC (when phosporescent die si introduced to the system). Forensic document examiners may use this to check for differences in ink.

It's inexpensive, highly portable, and works well. If you need a limited UV light, this is the tool for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blindingly BRIGHT (depending upon your intentions), October 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am a medical student and needed to purchase a penlight. I purchased this particular one greatly underestimating how bright it actually is. Thus, I would have to say it probably isn't the best for shining in a patient's eyes....way too bright for that. However, if you want a real good flashlight that is carry-convenient, look no further. Engineered simple, strong, and powerful. Bargain for what you get.

2.0 out of 5 stars Weak UV, December 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It arrived fine. I tested the batteries before I installed them. When I did I found a very low output of the flashlight. In short I didn't like it. If forced into a corner I would use it, but for the most part I would look around for a UV flashlight with a higher output. The "switch" is based on how far you screw down the back cap. Screw it a little and you use the momentary rubber button at the back. If you want the flashlight on for a longer time period you just screw down the back cap until it stops.
