I've had this thing for five minutes, but it has already blinded me and impressed the heck out of me :) I don't see much use for the lanyard, but then again, i've never used a flashlight with one. If i want to hang something off myself, i'll use my Petzl headlamp. For handheld lights, this little guy is awesome!
This light is only a tiny bit thicker and heavier than a Maglite Solitaire, but the performance will blow that itsy bitsy Mag out of the water. While this tiny guy is no replacement for a larger light, it will serve me well for many functions. The light output is plenty for most applications and will easily light your way in the dark. For general use, especially at this price, this light belongs in every pocket, purse, or glove box out there. The best flashlight is the one you carry with you, and it will be hard for me to not have one on me now.
The rear-cap button on mine does require a decent amount of force to activate full-on. While this may annoy some people, it makes momentary use of the light easy, without accidentally going to full-on. It also makes it much tougher to accidentally have it go on in your pocket or purse. This will be a love it or hate it part of this light for some folks.
Construction quality is excellent. In the sub-$20 market, i'm used to seeing cheap-looking stuff. Streamlight did a good job on this one. I've posted a couple photos illustrating the light pattern and how small this thing is in my hand. I'd consider my hands to be average size (for a guy).
My initial impressions of this light are excellent. You won't be sorry with this one...
UPDATE after 1 month of use:
When it's not flickering, the light continues to work great. I'm still on the original battery and use the light every day. It is a wonderful pocket light. After a couple of weeks, it began to flicker occasionally when first turned on. I don't know if this is due to the LED, driver circuitry, switch, etc. It seems to work better if given a smack. I've just taken the endcap off, cleaned the electrical contacts and put it back together VERY tightly. We'll see if that does the trick. Thus far after several days it's 100% OK. It's a bit of a pain to have to tighten it down that much, but it seems to be doing the trick.
