I purchased the TLR-1 in April of 2011 through Amazon. I work midnights for a Municipal Police Department, and often have to do evidence searches and enter extremely dark environments. This light puts out a focused beam of very white light, and also floods the area well. When pointed at the ceiling of a 200 square foot room, it will light the room as if someone just threw on the light switch. The switch assembly is solid, and reacts nicely. When affixed to a Glock 19, HiPoint 9mm Carbine and M4 the light was very usable. The whole assembly of the light is great. I almost knocked off one star based on the lens assembly <-- read on... but I just can't, as I find the light extremely well made.

The light is listed as VIRTUALLY INDESTRUCTIBLE. I take great care in handling my equipment, and the streamlight is no exception. I recently dropped the TLR-1, and the angle at which it hit the ground could be no worse. The lens hit directly on the corner of a concrete step, and the lens shattered. I cleared the broken glass/plastic?, and the light continues to perform flawlessly. The light output is still 100%.

I did not want to compromise the integrity of the light, so I searched the internet for lenses. I got mixed part numbers, and mixed information.

I called Streamlight Customer Service, (Call, don't email. After a brief conversation with CS, I was on my way to happiness. The CS Rep advised me of the current part number vs. the obsolete parts that were being advertised by companies online.

The TLR-1 light.... Awesome.
Amazon and Streamlight... Awesome.

All in All a renewed faith in sales and service.

thanks for reading, and hope this helped.

I ordered the Streamlight TLR-1 on 1-16-12 from amazon. After opening the box, I noticed on the side that it stated 135 lumens output, not the 160 lumens as stated in amazon's product features section. The Streamlight website also lists TLR-1 as having 160 lumens, but the included manual says 135 lumens. The bottom of the box has the date of 2009 printed on it. I can only assume I was shipped an older generation of the TLR-1. I have no way of knowing how much brighter it would be with the additional 25 lumens. I plan to keep the light despite this discrepancy because it is still quite bright, feels solidly built, and I just don't feel like repacking and shipping it back. I recommend this light, just double check the side of the box for lumen output when you receive it to make sure you get what was advertised.

I've mounted this to my S&W M&P40, fit perfect and tight. Fired about 200 rounds with the light on, no problem, it lit up the target perfectly (in door range). I bought a cheap $40 light for my 9 and it failed to work after 20 rounds. Don't waste your money on the cheap ones. I liked TLR-1 so much, I bought a second one for my 9. You can't go wrong with this light.

I have to say this is one rugged tactical light! How can I say that with great confidence? Well, let's just say I didn't install the right key in the light when I first mounted it to my S&W M&P 40 (read the Operation manual, didn't list my specific handgun and which key to use so made an assumption... bad thing to do!). While I was going through the first full magazine the light popped off the gun and went bouncing down the cement floor of the range like a gymnast across the mat at the Olympics. I had to wait until after the range closed for the evening to have the range operator retrieve my light from about 5 yards out. Although the light was banged and bruised up with a noticeable dent in the front ring the light operated and worked just fine. And surprisingly the glass had not shattered as I'd expected after having watched it tumbling across the cement.

So, why would I share my "guy blond moment" with you nice Amazon shoppers looking for a good tactical light? Well, to: 1) Make folks aware about the need to go to the Streamlight web site if you're unsure of the correct key to use; and, 2) Testify just how strong of a light this so as to save someone from having to replicate my unintended experiment. As a note for S&W M&P 40/9mm owners you're supposed to use the "1913" key, which is for a Picatinny style rail. That said, if you're unsure which key to use for your specific handgun and it's not listed in the Operation installation instructions, go to the Streamlight web site, look up your tactical light and find the "Info Sheet with Part Numbers" in the Docs/Info tab.

Okay, so now that's out of the way how good is the light itself? Let me say it's exceeded my expectations in performance.

Received my Streamlight TLR-1 LED Rail Mounted light yesterday. I spent 2 days researching reviews and specs to make sure I had a good competitively priced light for my Beretta 92A1. I entered the TLR-1 in YouTube and received several reviews. YouTube was VERY helpful in me speeding up the battery installation and mounting the light on my Beretta rail. The TLR-1 comes with several rail attachments for various firearms. Many reviews stated the TLR-1 was amazingly bright for the price. I could not agree more! It was also very easy to operate installed with either hand. The light switch was easy to operate and had a good firm feel to the switch. After mounting the LTR-1 on the rail, it fit like a glove and had no play. I did tighten it slightly just to add even more stability. Doing that was very easy. I used a flat head short screwdriver but could have used a quarter. All in all I would purchase the product again, based on my very early experience.
