5.0 out of 5 stars Best introduction to the Sufi Path I have seen in English, January 30, 2005
This review is from: Streams to the ocean: A contemplative introduction to the Sufi path (Paperback)
This book is written by a living, contemporary practitioner of the mystical dimension of Islam which is commonly referred to as the Sufi Path or Sufi Way. I first came into contact with this work about four years ago, and I was immediately taken with both its simplicity, as well as practical nature.

When I first read this book, I was reading it with the eyes of a non-Sufi but one who had much respect and admiration for things mystical. One of the amazing things about this book is that you don't have to be a sufi to take away value from its writings concerning the issues of spirituality in general. Anybody, from any spiritual tradition, can read this book and apply its wisdom to their own tradition.

Each individual essay from the 90-plus essays in Streams to the Ocean simultaneously focuses on a different dimension of both lived life and the Sufi mystical perspective. One is introduced to various ways of thinking about the problems of life, and, at the same time, one learns how the travelers of the Sufi Path approach an array of issues and themes.

This is a book the reader will pick up and consult again and again. I know I have, and so have others I know who have read this book.

Through essays entitled: Forgiveness, Identity, Fear, Jealousy, Betrayal, Doubt, God, Faith, Freedom, Courage, Humility, Prayer, Commitment, Equality, Hope, Love - together with some 74 other essays - I found myself acquiring a solid, introductory understanding of the Sufi perspective. Through reading and meditating on these essays, I began to develop a deeper appreciation for, and sense of, the Sufi mystical approach to life.

a great series of essays on themes that are important for any seeker on a spiritual path. It is obvious that the author not only talks the talk, but walks the walk.
