TOO FUNKY! ONE OF THE BEST OF ITS ERA!,
By
This review is from: Street Called Desire & More (Audio CD)
If you were into real music(remember when you slept with your radio on?)then you definately remember this release. This one has all the hits(HITS! NOT THE RAP SAMPLED COPIES)we all jammed to in '85. "I'll be good", "Save your love(for #1), "No How-No Way", "You Don't have to cry", and the incomporable "Your Smile". This is still one of my top three favorite albums today. From a group you still wish was making music but situation problems made it otherwise. Polygram reissued this album in the FUNK ESSENTIALS series with all of the HARD TO FIND 12" REMIXES which black radio jammed on the air. Pick this one up! You won't be dissappointed.

R & A's Best !,

Back in '85, at age 15, even then I knew this was hot stuff ! To this day this awesome collection of synthesized-dance, electro- funk tracks and soulful seductive ballads was one of the best albums this duo produced. In fact it was their last effort together both as a team and for the Mercury label...Simply hypnotic and the kind of tunes that will stay in your head (for all the good reasons of course)! I still play this cd to this day and especially during the summer...Anyone who owns/owned this title on cassette and then the re-mastered cd will realize that a few tracks have been "instrumentally and musically enhanced"(re-mixed,re-engineered ?) or are alternates than what was on the cassette. Then, the cd offers a greater nostalgic value by also including the out of print extended or dance re-mixes...the cassette versions were a little more bland. Still, this is one of my all time favorite R&B titles from the 80's. A definite must-keep... After all these years A Street Called Desire still holds its own pretty well !

As a club DJ in the 80's, I was priveledged to listen to the 12" remixes for many years. Now they are all on one CD. If you liked 80's soul, then this is a must have for your collection. I still jam to Kurtis Blow's rap touch to "Save Your Love"Awesome CD!

FUNKY, SMOOTHED OUT 80'S R&B....,
This review is from: Street Called Desire & More (Audio CD)
The marketing executive who decided to re-master these tracks and put them out in a CD format needs a PAYRAISE, IMMEDIATELY!!!! These bring back memories from the time when R&B artists had to actually WRITE, PRODUCE AND ACTUALLY SING and not just look good on the cover (sob!). "Smile," "...Cry," "...No Way," "Save Your Love..." need I go on??? If you yearn for the "good ol' days," what are you waiting on??? GET THE THING!!! (It's just too bad that the personal problems got in the way of the music: it would've been mind-blowing had they put out more.)

Classic 80's Soul,
By A Customer
This review is from: Street Called Desire & More (Audio CD)
Its great to see this classic '80s soul duo's CD remastered and reissued with all the 12" mixes added as bonus tracks. Worth it just for the tracks "Save Your Love For #1", "Your Smile", and "I'll Be Good". Put it on, and just let it play... every track has merit on this disc. This CD is a staple for all soul format radio stations, so you've probably heard at least 1-2 of these tunes. Pick it up... it's well worth the price.

Marvellous singing,

Although the album has its fair share of filler( the awfull crash bang electro funk of Drive my love and Who's foolin' who conjure up memories of the very worst of the 8o's)there are the hits which sound even better 15 years later but the lp's only real talking point is the divine Your smile; deep passionate and very very soulful. Some of the notes Angela Winbush hits are not in the book.At least two of these 4 stars is for Your smile, it's that good!
