5.0 out of 5 stars Elan..RARE TALENT
I must say that I consider myself a pop music snob. I'm not impressed with over-the-top productions, repetitive sounds..or even the ability to hit high notes (as many people seem to drool over anybody who can wail and call them great)....ELAN isn't any one of these terms

I must say that I consider myself a pop music snob. I'm not impressed with over-the-top productions, repetitive sounds..or even the ability to hit high notes (as many people seem to drool over anybody who can wail and call them great)....ELAN isn't any one of these terms

This album is a REFRESHING sound that is needed in today's pop music. It's simple yet focused. She's not trying hard at all to impress you, for it seems she realizes that all but herself should be enough (and is) to make you want to listen. Vocally, she's not anything out of the ordinary. At times she sounds ALOT like pre-pubescent TAYLOR HANSON (of Hanson) and at other times, like SOPHIE B. HAWKINS...but she's not attempting an emulation, she simply sings her thoughts. Musically, she seems influenced by story telling singer/songwriters, at times we see CAT STEVENS, and the piano style of JOHN LENNON.

Hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico and living in the United States since 15, her songs seem to reflect a unique point of view of someone who has seen the stature that Society places on us. in "They Came From The City", she expresses all that, telling the story of a person struggling to live in the Babylon of L.A.

You will not be dissapointed by Elan. She is a gifted pop star that I know will continue to make great records in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing debut..., June 24, 2004
This review is from: Street Child (Audio CD)
Ask yourself this question. When's the last time you heard a singer that just left you in awe? I can not stop listening to this album! It is quickly becoming one of my faves. Her voice is simple, no over singing a la Christina Aguilera/Kelly Clarkson/Joss Stone here. Just emotion, honesty, soul and passion all coming out of this woman's mouth. The music is at times dark and moody, yet it is so simple and elegant. I honestly can not say that any other album released in the last couple of years has sucked me in like this. I listen to this at least once a day. Never do I get sick of it. Every song is amazing, but I must say my favorite is The Road. It's so rare that an artist comes along w/ such an amazing debut where you can honestly sit through every song in awe.

I really love this album, it's very original, every track is very catchy.
Leave Me: love it, perfect lyrics and a good oppener for the album.
Midnight: It's cool, it reminded me to hanson but still unique.
Sorry baby: The lyrics are very, what can I say? melancholic great song.
Hideaway: I had the opportunity to watch the video in internet and liked it too much as the song.
Jeremy: Not my favorite but still ok.
The road: My favorite song in the album, is slow, catchy, the lyrics, wow!

They came from the city: ok song...
Shy: also good
Another woman: the black sheep in the album, didn't like the song :S
Call home: I like the background music, like very country?
Time: another favorite!!! this girl really know how to write songs, love it.
Street child: excelent end for the album, and also love the hidden track.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Street Child (Audio CD)
The issue is not whether Elan is from Guadalajara or any place. It a matter of opinion, ask mine: her music is rocks. It depends what you like.

Realmente no importa si esta chica es de Guadalajara o no. Es questions de opiniones, si me preguntan a mi: su musica esta buenisima. Depende que les guste. No fuera de Monterry porque entonces si ... les gusta michisimo.

4.0 out of 5 stars Replica para Horacio Rivera, December 23, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Street Child (Audio CD)

3.0 out of 5 stars Donde lo he oido?, October 20, 2003

Horacio Rivera (Monterrey, Mexico) - See all my reviews

Solo he escuchado el primer sencillo: "Midnight".
