I can't believe the reviewer that complained that she bought this for her kid that was being potty trained and it was too hard to put together and too many small parts. First of all, this page and the packaging clearly state it is NOT FOR CHILDREN UNDER 4 YEARS OF AGE, CHOKING ON SMALL PARTS IS POSSIBLE. Second of all, the whole concept of Micro Machines is that they are small, tiny, micro sized.... That is why they are called "Micro Machines". They are meant for older kids, and even adults collect these. The reviewer also stated that you cannot find the cars anywhere. Yes and not. The company closed down in 1998, so this and the cars are rare. But you can find tons of them online, including here at Amazon. Just enter the name "Micro Machines" and about 800 listings come up, several hundred of these are the cars. planes and boats that go with these playsets. Either do a search or click at the top of the page under the title of the playset on the blue words, Galoob Micro Machines. They have tons of brand new ones from unsold inventory at Amazon, and the auctions sites have used ones by the thousands. I used to buy these from Amazon when they were still being made, and my son was nuts about them.

Micromachines were tiny plastic toy vehicles, much smaller than Hot Wheels at about 1.5 inches long. They were made by the Galoob toy company in the 1980's and 1990's. The cars were usually sold in a 4 pack of related vehicles. They included civilian cars, truck, boats, planes, construction vehicles, and military equipment. They had unusual items like spacecraft, monster trucks, hang glider, surfers, all kinds of things. They also had franchise agreements to make toys for different movies and shows such as James Bond, Star Wars, Star Trek, Indian Jones, Predator, Terminator, Aliens, Babylon 5 and more. They made plastic heads the size of a shoe, that opened up into a related playset, such as a Yoda head that turned into the Dagobah swamp, or a Race Car helmet that transformed into a race track. The Galoob designers were very original and creative, and designed some of my favorite toys ever. In 1999 when Galoob was the 3rd largest toy manufacter they were bought out by competitor Hasbro. The new owners promptly shut down production of many of the Galoob toys including Micromachines, and sold off the inventory. You can occasionally see the Micromachines name on Star Wars toys, or toys sold overseas but they are gone for now. This makes the old sets, especially those that are still new in the box, very collectible. Now that the kids that owned them in the 1980's are growing up, the price can only go up on the collectibles market. The company slogan was "Think Big, Play Small, Micro machines!"

The playset on this page was part of the Street Corners series, known for the ability to link the sets together with pieces of track and playsets from the Hyways and Byways series. I did not find any of these hard to put together. The Street Corner sets were popular in the 1980's. In this release from 1992 I believe what they really did was place 4 separate street corner sets in one box. These are 1) City Motors a car dealership with a rotating car display 2) Jiffy Lube Oil Change Center with a working vehicle lift 3) Shell Service Station with gas pumps 4 a house called 27 Maple Avenue with a working garage door. No vehicles came in the sets, and individually the Street Corners sets were one of the smallest they made.

I thought this was a very fun toy. It keeps little kids busy, and there's lots to do. Gas up your cars at the Shell convenience store, then fix up the car at the Jiffy Lube. Maybe you would like to trade in that car at the City Motors. After a long day of play, it's nice to head home to the house playset. Definitely buy this item, you won't be dissapointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Review, May 6, 2008

This review is from: Street Corners Super Set Micro Machines Playset (Toy)
I just received this toy for my son who is in the process of being potty trained. I have never written a review before but felt compelled to write one. This toy IS NOT worth [...]. It is flimsy and IMO cheaply made. It has TONS of small peices to be assembled - including putting small stickers on it everywhere (this is difficult to do with small kids running around). It also does not come with any of the small cars needed - and I can't find them online anywhere. It appears much bigger in the picture then it actually is.
I am really disappointed. It looked so nice online but even my almost 4 year old said it looked "different".
Ugggh! Off to search for the tiny micro cars it needs.
