Book Description

Labi loves to daydream, but when you're a street dog in Africa, dreaming doesn't fill your belly. In between chasing mice and navigating the not-so-safe Congolese streets, Labi dreams of having a human to call her own.

One day, she meets a wise black dog who makes her dreams come true. Labi finds herself with a soft bed, a bowl of food, and a confusing set of human rules.

But when she makes a big mistake at a dog party, Labi wonders if she'll ever fit in. She sets out to prove she's a good pup and discovers that even a former street dog can have a mission in life.

A Street Dog's Story is the first in a series of illustrated children's books about Labi, a former street dog, and her mission to save other homeless animals. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds from the sale of A Street Dog’s Story will be donated to Humane Society International’s Street Dog Defender Campaign.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Story for Kids of All Ages April 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A Street Dog's Story is for kids of all ages from 2 to 92. Labi's struggles are leavened with just the right amount of humor, and topped off with a happy ending. The specifics of this dog's story may be unique to her background in the Congo - but her capacity to learn, adapt, and express gratitude will be familiar to anyone who lives or works with rescue dogs. Oh, and did I mention that the illustrations are glorious?!

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful lesson April 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This delightful story presents the issues related to feral or unwanted dogs in a way that children can understand and shows both the challenges and rewards of adopting - or rescuing - a dog that only needs love, security and some discipline to become a treasured member of the family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful Children's Book About Street Dog Labi May 23, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A Street Dog's Story is a children's book about Labi (short for la biche which is French for deer) the dog rescued by U.S. diplomats Tracy and Eric Whittington while they were working in Africa.

It is a delightful story with fun drawings of Labi and her adventures.

There are books that are cute and fun to read, and there are books that bring awareness about things that shouldn't be. A Street Dog's Story combines both functions. It is written to bring awareness of the plight of animals that don't have the security and love of having a family but it is done in a way that shows with love and care things can be better.

I enjoyed reading A Street Dog's Story and believe animal lovers all around the world will find a special place for Labi and her mission in their hearts.

It is a short story only thirty-seven pages long, written for children, that adults will enjoy reading too.

Eric and Tracy are U.S. diplomats currently serving in Bolivia. While working in Africa, Tracy met a scrawny, scared dog scraping by on the streets. After watching the poor pup struggle to survive, Tracy trapped and rescued her. Labi easily took to being a pet, and the rest is history.
