Book Description

October 1, 2007
Traer Scott travelled to Puerto Rico and Mexico to capture these remarkable and soulful photographs of dogs living alone or in packs on city streets. Since many street dogs were formerly pets, they are often friendly, approachable and eager to be adopted into new homes. As Scott documents in her introduction, she witnessed and assisted in the rescue of many of the dogs she photographed for this book; thanks to the collaborative efforts of Puerto Rican, Latin American and US organizations, these dogs have now been adopted into new homes both in the United States and Mexico. It features 90 irresistible, soulful portraits and outdoor photographs of street dogs. It is accompanied by a beautifully written, illustrated introduction by Traer Scott on her experience of photographing and rescuing street dogs. It includes a mini biography of many dogs featured, with details about their rescue and journey to a new home, and contact.

5.0 out of 5 stars Street Dogs Soars, November 4, 2007
This review is from: Street Dogs (Hardcover)
Given the subject, I feared Scott's new book would be difficult to peruse, and maybe even impossible to enjoy. But it turns out to be remarkably uplifting--thanks entirely to Scott's amazing talent and keen eye. Her black and white images capture the pathos and unassailable dignity of a stratum of animals that far too many people are bent on ignoring. You can't ignore them now. Their faces and expressions may permanently affect your opinion of purebreds....As we first learned in her bestselling "Shelter Dogs," Scott can write too....her thoughtful introduction hits the perfect balance between necessary background information and personal vignette. You're apt to need a box of kleenex beside you for the final updates on the dogs--machete-victim, Jess, is now living with a family in Washington State, Skippy went to Boston, Elsa is in Florida. There may be hope for the world after all.....

5.0 out of 5 stars A photo documentary suitable for any general-interest library, December 4, 2007
This review is from: Street Dogs (Hardcover)
Author photographer Traer Scott journeyed to Puerto Rico and Mexico to capture her black and white photos of dogs living alone or in packs on city streets: thus STREET DOGS offers up a documentary of some thirty street dogs as they seek food, play, and live. She's captured some of the heartbreak of such abandoned animals but also produces a photo documentary suitable for any general-interest library strong in animal portraits, as well as many a college-level art photography library.

4.0 out of 5 stars Touching, February 10, 2008
By
D. Hughes "Dog lover" (Cincinnati, Ohio United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Street Dogs (Hardcover)
Street Dogs was an extremly touching book of photos of so many forgotten, hungry, yet vibrant puppies and dogs.
It is so sad to see these beautiful creatures struggling to survive.

Traer Scott has a real talent for capturing the heart and sole of one of these beautiful dogs just through their eyes. As in Shelter Dogs I found myself with a lump in my throat throughout the book.

A smart buy for anyone who claims to be or is a dog-lover.
