I got to see Street Drum Corps before I knew who they were and promptly came home and ordered their CD. What I love about this is you get not only the music CD, which is amazing, but you get the DVD as well, so those of you who haven't seen them live can see how they make the music they do...WHICH IS AMAZING!

Until you see the DVD and know where each sound comes from, you cannot fully appreciate the music. For instance, the main beat in "Wrecks" is actually a fire extinguisher being slammed against a dumpster.

This album seems rushed. I am not only referring to the fact that it is 24:10 in length, but it seems as though the percussionists were under a tight schedule and had little time to polish their improvisations into genuine tracks. Judging from their talent and creativity, this album would have been much stronger if they could have done some more on location recordings (the video features a trip to a car junkyard) or just spent more time in the studio.

The DVD makes this release worth your money. Not only does it document Street Drum Corp, the making of this album, and some live performances, but it also comes with several music videos from other bands.

Though at first, I thought SDC was nothing more than a Stomp wannabe group, I was soon hooked on their rhythm and beat. True that they have many similarities to Stomp, Blue Man Group, and others like it, but it still has its own unique style that combines the beating of trash cans with a bit of hip hop and occasional rap.

Anyone who would put down this group obviously has no taste for this type of music and doesn't understand that there can be more than one group that fits into a given genre. Perhaps these same people would complain that Garth Brooks is more of the same country, or that Nelly is just more rap.

Bottom line, if you're into the semi-repetitive no melody type of music, then you should definitly look into this.

How many times has this been shoved down our throats? I remember the bucket drummer from the Levis commercial in the eighties, Stomp on Broadway, and Blue Man Group off-Broadway. How these guys are classified as rock is way beyond me. SDC are probably better experienced live, since their whole shtick is playing drums on inanimate objects. You do get a DVD with this release, but it's only of a couple of performances. Now if SDC were the rhythm section for a rock band, THAT would be different.
