4.0 out of 5 stars Not a Fighting Game, But a good game nonetheless, April 22, 2004

This review is from: Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight (Video Game)
The Word Street Fighter has been identified as, by any gamer's standards, a Fighting Game. This installment of street fighter, however, is nothing of the sort. As a matter of fact, it's a platformer!
Street Fighter 2010 puts you in the role of a man named Ken (no, he is not the one from the series, oddly) who seeks the the killer of his friend (Who also happens to NOT be M. Bison). As you might have guessed from the title, it is supposed to take place in the future. The game features an upgradable weapon system and an insane difficulty. However,it just seems like Capcom slapped a popular name on an otherwise fairly run-of-the-mill platformer. So, if you are a fighting game fan through and through, don't feel too bad if you pass on this game. However, if you want to test your mettle at old-school platformers, you may want to pick this one up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Game I've Ever Played, August 20, 2010

I am dead serious... This is the best game I have ever played. It is also the hardest game that I have beaten. The game involves Ken fighting against monsters that are infected by cyboplasm, which is something Ken and his friend Troy invented. The cyboplasm is supposedly stolen and supposedly Troy dies. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll stop there. Anyway, I have absolutely no complaints. The game is not flawless though, there is one thing that is weird, but it is not the game designers fault. The NES controller does not have much buttons, so the game controls are limited by the way. To shoot up diagonally, you have press down and B. I am so glad you don't actually need to use this attack ever! If you had to, then I would have a complaint. Like I said, this is literally the best and funnest game I have ever played. I cannot believe this game is not considered a classic. The AVGN is right when he says, "...then I'd say this is an underrated NES classic." I am astounded, and I would recommend this to anyone.

EDIT:
I should probably mention this: this game has nothing to do with Street Fighter whatsoever. The character's name is Ken, but it still has no relation to Street Fighter.

4.0 out of 5 stars It may not be Street Fighter, but it's still great, February 13, 2012
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight (Video Game)
Before Street Fighter II helped to define the competitive fighting genre of video games with its many versions, there was this game that carried the Street Fighter name. If you're expecting any of the competitive combat and trademark moves that you'd expect from the franchise, you will be disappointed. However, what we get in return is a creative, surrealistic platformer that I can honestly say is like none other.

The only connection I can see with this game to the Street Fighter franchise is that the protagonist's name is Ken. That's it, even the US release of Ninja Gaiden tied in closer to Street Fighter (protagonist is Ryu and his father is Ken). Let's pretend this has a different title that pops up in your head and forget that this has any connection to Street Fighter whatsoever and move on from there.

Anyways, you play throughout 5 planets to track down the antagonist. The controls are fairly simple for a platformer game, featuring A to jump and B to shoot projectile beams at enemies. It does have a MegaMan vibe to it (then again, Capcom developed this game), but it still holds it own by having Ken climb on the walls, which is necessary for a good amount of the levels in this game. When it comes to attacking, it works well but it's absolutely worth it to collect the power ups in this game. Whether they'd come from destroyed enemies or rock-like objects scattered around, they'll make everything easier. Despite this, the shooting is still a bit unorthodox. Jumping and shooting is limited, so it's best to attack while either on the ground or clinging onto a wall. What may confuse people the most, however, is shooting diagonally up, which is done by pressing down on the D-Pad and B. Yes, it takes quite a while to nail it down, but it's far from the worst control scheme I've dealt with in gaming, so it's nothing too serious.

The level design is what I feel makes this game so great. No two levels are alike, and even though the main objective of each stage is to destroy enough enemies to activate the portal, Capcom know how to make it very interesting in the process. Strategy and perseverance is a must, especially during the final stage when it comes down to speed being a critical factor (200 seconds to defeat 5 bosses). It's a challenge that can be frustrating but it doesn't skimp out on the fun factor at all.

It may not be Street Fighter at heart, but it's a great game for the NES regardless. Even with its flaws, it rounds out for a great game that will highly appeal to those that like the platforming and side scrolling genres. It's a unorthodox and varied attempt at this style, and it works very well.

4.0 out of 5 stars An underrated classic that'll chew you up and spit you without mercy!, December 2, 2011

Purchased this game after viewing AVGN's review on youtube. This is a tough game, but addicting and very rewarding when you get the hang of it. This is definitely a classic, similar to Ninja Gaiden in its play style and difficulty level. Each stage throws something different at you, forcing you to adapt and come up with new strategies on the fly for effectively overcoming obstacles and dispatching enemies. It also features unlimited continues, so unless you can breeze through this game level to level, you'll be sitting down in front of the TV for awhile as your blood boils and hands sweat. This really is an underrated classic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good game from Capcom, October 5, 2011

Capcom had released numerous titles for the NES and while some turned into major franchises, others flew under the radar. Street Fighter 2010 The Final Fight was released in 1990 and was a good game from the well known publisher. Those who took a chance with it were pleasantly surprised.

The basic plot for this game is the main character, Ken, is on the hunt for the enemies who killed your partner and stole a formula that makes you into a bad ass street fighter. So you travel the galaxy, explore different worlds, pick up power ups to maintain your health & make you stronger and defeat the bosses who wait for you. No passwords were available to save your progress but you had an unlimited amount of continues. This game was for one player only.

The PROS: For a game that has the words "Street Fighter", many would have thought this was the sequel or an alternate take on the first Street Fighter arcade game but it isn't. The story and premise of the game was unique and the graphics and sound effects are pretty good. The music was pretty catchy and the controls worked so moving and fighting with your character was never a problem. This game was also borderline hard and a bit long as there were many worlds to complete.

The CONS: I mentioned the game is borderline hard because at times it's pretty unforgiving. You would take hits from enemy fire and/or if you touched them. But this game is also one of those games where it pays to be totally powered up in order to keep up. Whenever you died, you start over in the same world you were in but had to collect the power ups again. This was pretty frustrating since at times you'd reach the boss and weren't as strong thus taking longer to beat it or you'd die.

Despite these flaws, Street Fighter 2010 was an overall good game. It's a shame that it didn't get the same attention as Mega Man, Mario, Contra and Strider did. If you're thinking about getting a copy for your NES, check out the YouTube videos or get your hands on an NES emulator for your PC.
