Good game, but not the best Street Fighter,

I've always liked the Street Fighter games a lot. A few years ago, one of my friends gave me Street Fighter II for the Super Nintendo, and it's good in most ways. The graphics and backgrounds were good for the time, the control is responsive, and it has cool sounds, sound effects, and music. The fighting in the game with the regular moves such as the punches and kicks, and the special moves such as the fireballs, Blanka's electricity, the fast kicks, etc. make this game a lot of fun. But it's not the best Street Fighter game ever made. In fact, it's not even the best of the Street Fighter II games. My only complaint is that it's a real slow fighting game. If you like fighting games, I would recommend getting Street Fighter II, but I would recommend one of the faster Street Fighter games such as Street Fighter II Turbo, which is the same as this game, but A LOT faster.

Best 2-D Fighter to grace the console gaming world!,

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior is perhaps my favourite fighter of all time! It was the first definitive fighter to be released on console, and was second to none (still is in my opinion). With choice of 8 different characters each with their very own fighting techniques and styles, makes for an awesome array of varied battles, in other words no 2 fights will ever be the same! Another great feature about the game is that it is multiplayer. So get a friend around and challenge them until your heart's content. I'd have to disagree with a few of the other reviews on the subject of street fighter II turbo being the greatest SF of all time. I believe that SF: Championship Edition on the 'ye old arcades is probably the best. A touch faster in gameplay as opposed to SF II: The World Warrior, and the ability to choose the additional bosses. Thats enough rambling on my part! In conclusion, SF II: The World Warrior is most definitely a worthy game in anyone's collection! See for yourself.

the original standard-setter,

SF2 was an arcade sensation. It revolutionized fighting games with its graphics, sound effects, and, most importantly, combo hits. It's no wonder why SF2 sold millions when it was released for the SNES. This version does justice to the arcade game with awesome graphics, awesome sounds, and awesome gameplay...the combos are in the game! This was the game by which other similar fighting games were judged by. Also look for SF2 Turbo, which is the original SF2 with playable bosses such as Balrog, Vega, Sagat, and M. Bison, and turbo modes (increase the speed of the game to lightning speed).

Revolutionized the fighting grene,

Street Fighter 2 revolutionized fighting video games when it came out in the early 90s. In fact, this was the main reason that many people (including myself) ran out and bought a Super Nintendo. Because it was nearly arcade-perfect and only available for the SNES, it spelled the beginning of the end of Sega's console dominance (the Genesis was on top at the time). The eight fighters come from different parts of the world and have their own distinctive look and fighting style. Each has their own animated background stages and reamarkably good theme music. The basic gameplay and control scheme became a fighting game standard, copied by many other titles including Mortal Kombat. Harder kicks and punches do more damage, but are more difficult to land. With special attacks and the ability to block, the gameplay is remarkably deep. The game provides the ability to customize the control scheme, and it always annoyed me how each of my friends always had modify the settings before each bout. Some say this game is somewhat slow, but that was remedied in the sequels. Street Fighter 2 is one of the all-time classics, right up there with Pac-man and Space Invaders. It led to many sequels, each of which offered minor enhancements but no significant changes to the gameplay itself. You owe it to your self to buy this game if you have an SNES, you'll be glad you did.

This has always been a great game. It's so much easier playing it on this platform than XBox and all it's buttons ;-)

Street Fighter II made such a huge impact in the arcade scene and video games in general. The first game in the series made a little bit of noise and had a cult following leading up to the release of the second game to the arcades. Who knew that history was being made as SF II gave birth to the fighting game genre and revolutionized video games at the same time. Everyone went crazy as soon as they played this game to death while mastering all of the characters' moves, combos, and strategies while sharing what they knew or found out between each other. No other arcade game had such a deep and devoted following and created tournament style gaming like Street Fighter II. Then, Capcom shocked everyone by announcing a port of Street Fighter II was coming to the SNES and it was released in 1992. This port was revolutionary for its time because while Capcom made changes to the game, the core essence remained and it was still as fun to play as it was in the arcades.Street Fighter II is a fighting game where you face off against the computer in a series of matches that lead up the game's main villain, M. Bison. You choose from one of eight characters, face off against the other 7 characters, then you go up against 4 boss characters (including M. Bison.) Each character has his/her own storyline and ending so you find out their specific reasons for wanting to fight M. Bison. After every third match, you enter a bonus stage where you get to earn additional points before the timer runs out (there are 3 bonus stages in total.) The game features a 2 player vs. mode so you can take on another human player but you can only choose from the 8 characters and not the additional boss characters. Finally, there is an option screen where you can change the buttons on your controller, play audio tracks from the game and adjust the difficulty level of the game. As an added bonus, there's a code you can use where both players can use the same character in a match. The PROS: This was revolutionary because they took an arcade game that was 58 megabits in size and shrunk it down into a 16 megabit cartridge. While changes were made, it looked and sounded close to what the arcade game was. On top of that, the controls were perfect. The game used every button on the SNES controller so Capcom did not have to compromise the button scheme at all. The rules of the arcade game were the same as the SNES port so you weren't missing out at all as far as how your character moves or what strategies to use against the computer or another human player. And the same character code was such a sweet bonus as it was NOT featured in the Street Fighter II arcade game. The CONS: Like I said before, this is not a perfect port. In order for the game to retain the same feel, Capcom had to make changes across the board for this game to fit and work properly. There are too many to list but it doesn't hurt the overall experience too much as there were people who never got the chance to play it in the arcades. For them, buying this game for the SNES was a perfect way to find out what the hype was all about. What is surprising is that when you put the difficulty level to its highest point, it is 100 times harder than the arcade game so only the most skilled SF players were able to defeat M. Bison at the highest difficulty level. It was a great time to have the SNES as Capcom would release a port of Street Fighter II: Champion Edition for the Sega Genesis more than a year after Street Fighter II was released for the SNES. Not only did fighting games become popular, but the gap between the quality of arcade games and their ports to home consoles became smaller and it was starting to become common to see popular arcade games ported to SNES, Genesis, etc. If by chance, you have never played any of the earlier Street Fighter II games, you can either pick up a used SNES copy, look for the numerous Street Fighter anthology collections that are out there or download this title for the Wii via their Virtual Console service for 800 points (US $8.) I recommend you try it out if you haven't done so yet.

Excellent classic fighting game, brings back the old days just playing it again. Of course, in my opinion SF2 Turbo was a little more fun having all the characters and smoother action. Still, great game.

I recently bought this since my sister 'borrowed' my old one and I figured I wasn't going to see it again. The game arrived on time, packaged nicely, and in great condition from Gina Bothem. The game worked perfectly and was just as I remembered it from when I was little.
