5.0 out of 5 stars Capcom delivers the best CE for one of the best fighting games
I know this CE is sold out but I figure reviews are still helpful for those considering paying the $100+ asking prices for secondhand copies. I'll cover the features unique to the CE.

3.0 out of 5 stars Collector's Edition not worth it
When I first heard of the Collector's Edition (CE) of Street Fighter 4 (SF4) I thought it would be worth the extra $20 because the bluray itself would justify the extra money. I had also thought the mini strategy guide, Ryu figurine, soundtrack, and costume pack, would be added bonuses. Boy was I wrong.

The SF4 movie, The Ties That Bind, is a poorly animated,...

I know this CE is sold out but I figure reviews are still helpful for those considering paying the $100+ asking prices for secondhand copies. I'll cover the features unique to the CE.

What makes this CE so special is the Blu-ray anime which is 65 minutes long. First of all, don't expect anything other than videogame story shlock. The movie's story ties in with the storyline of the videogame I thought it did a good job of expanding on what they were talking about in the videogame. There's only two fight scenes with the first fight scene not showing up until half an hour into the movie. The fights are Viper vs. Ryu & Cammy, and the final showdown at the cruise ship with Sakura, Chun-Li, Ken, and Ryu; it's mostly a Ryu showdown with him taking on the top baddie. Avoid the English track it has the worst lip synch and voice acting I've heard in anime since the 90s(this is true for the videogame too).

Animation is about what you'd see on a TV anime series. PQ is not good there is color banding. Disc has a DTS-HD Master Audio track.

The figurine is neat, doesn't look crappy like the Assassin's Creed figurine. The figurine and anime are the best parts of this CE. The hint book is garbage, it just shows move lists for the new characters with illustrations done by Udon. And of course the staple of videogame CEs an OST with music from the game's levels. There's also a voucher for downloadable costumes.

All in all this is the best CE of a videogame I've ever purchased. You don't just get a figurine or lame bonus soundtrack or a bite sized art book you get an anime movie produced for the CE. If you're considering paying the high secondhand prices for this CE do it only for the Blu-ray the rest is just standard CE fluff. To tell you the truth as neat as this CE is I don't think it's worth more than its MSRP.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fighting game, nothing else, March 2, 2009

I don't think there's anything I can say that hasn't been said about the quality of the fighting in this game. Top notch. No doubt about it. What I like the best is the online play. It's so smooth and seamless, it really takes you back to the good old arcade days.

I'm not as wowed at the graphics as other people are. When you see the characters up close you can see some blurry textures. And the backgrounds are really nothing special. And if I'm going to nit pick, the backgrounds are a big disappointment. Nobody is assigned a stage. They're all random and none of them are memorable like the ones in Street Fighter 2.

The anime cut scenes before and after you beat the game are just horrible. Storyline? Is there one? This is supposed to take place between Street Fighter 2 and Street Fighter 3 and yet it does NOTHING to do fill in the gaps between the two. All it does is raise MORE questions by bringing dead characters back and adding new ones. Where'd all these characters go in SF3?

As far as the "Collectors Edition" goes, it's not really worth the extra money. You get an anime movie which is of the same quality as the cut scenes in the game. It's horrible. I love anime and have seen a lot of it. But this is one of the worst animes I have ever seen in my life. It's worse than the new live action Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li movie.

And then you get a comic book strategy guide that you'll look at once and never again. And a tiny Ryu figure which is kinda cool to look at. And the soundtrack.

I spent the extra money to get the movie, but the movie is horrible. So if that's your reasoning to buy this collectors edition, save your money and just buy the game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Game is great but the collector's edition is lacking, February 18, 2009

First off I love the actual game. I've grown up with the fighting genre, played fighting games since I was a young kid and could barely reach the joysticks and buttons. The Streetfighter franchise has come a long, long way but sadly it is my opinion that the collector's edition (it's contents) is a let-down to Street Fighter fans, and hardly justifies the extra price.

The items that came with the collector's edition include a Ryu figurine, a cd soundtrack, blu-ray movie disc "The Ties That Bind" collector's hint book, network vouchers for free alternate costumes (you'll pay a small fee if you don't have the voucher) and of course the actual game.

At first glanced this seemed like a great deal, until you actually have the product in your hands. Upon opening the box you'll notice that the touted figurine of Ryu and I'am assuming the same for C. Viper for the X Box editions are incredibly small. My Ryu figurine has a certain degree of detail to it; Ryu poses in a classic form as he is preparing to form a hadoken fireball. The thing is it only stands at about 3 inches tall. I wasn't expecting something huge, but when you compare the size of the figurine to the size of the box, you could easily stand 3 Ryu figurines on top of one another with room to spare. That's how small the figurine is.

Trying to be optimistic of the C.E., I popped in the blu ray movie and all I can say is, the animation showcases some of the classic characters: Guile, Chun Li, Cammy, Ken, Sakura and of course Ryu with appearances of Balrog, Vega and the new game boss Seth. Without going into too much details C. Viper is shown as an antagonist in the short film. Well the film wasn't anything spectacular. Storyline was much too predictible. I wouldn't say you'd be missing much by opting not to get the collector's edition.

My overall opinion is 5 stars for the game. But if I could rate just the contents that came with the collector's edition, I would have to give it a 2.5 stars at best. I didn't feel it worth while to have paid more for these extras; perhaps you'll feel differently. Just my 2 cents.

3.0 out of 5 stars Collector's Edition not worth it, February 22, 2009

This review is from: Street Fighter IV Collector's Edition (Video Game)
When I first heard of the Collector's Edition (CE) of Street Fighter 4 (SF4) I thought it would be worth the extra $20 because the bluray itself would justify the extra money. I had also thought the mini strategy guide, Ryu figurine, soundtrack, and costume pack, would be added bonuses. Boy was I wrong.

The SF4 movie, The Ties That Bind, is a poorly animated, poorly written, and poorly produced film. It's around 65 minutes long and does little to add to the story of the fighting game, which isn't impressive to begin with.

The mini strategy guide is pathetic at best. At around 14 pages it's thinner than the actual game guide! All it includes is some art by Udon showcasing 2 special moves and a combo for the 4 new characters: Abel, Crimson Viper, El Fuerte, and Rufus.

The Ryu figurine stands around 4 inches tall and isn't much to look at, but if you like to collect little nicknacks this would be great for you. Since the figurine is so small you can imagine how hard it would be to cram a lot of detail into it so don't expect too much.

The soundtrack CD is the highlight of what come extra with the CE for me. It features some nice remixes to classic songs which, based on the cover art, are from the upcoming Motion Picture. Overall a great listen.

The costume pack bugged me a little because it sets up whoever buys the CE to possibly be suckered into buying the rest of the costume packs. There are going to be a total of 5 costume packs released as payable downloadable content. Each pack will have alternative costumes for 5 characters and cost $4 each. You can imagine anyone who has the first set would probably want the remaining 4. In the end it's a good marketing move by Capcom.

While I don't suggest you get the CE for SF4 I highly recommend you buy the game on its own. Reviews on the game are plentiful so I won't write about it.

My ratings--
SF4 CE package: 2.5/5
SF4: 5/5

4.0 out of 5 stars OMFG, September 13, 2009

This review is from: Street Fighter IV Collector's Edition (Video Game)
I don't know where to start.
Well first of all, the blu-ray movie that was included is kinda 'eh'. The soundtrack is awesome, but I think you'll only enjoy it if you like the whole tech scene. The game itself is exactly what you expect from a next gen street fighter game.
Now to the game itself. Let's break it down between gameplay, multi-player, graphics, sound and Overall

Gameplay is classic street fighter gameplay, the controls are essentially the same, but kinda hard to get used to if it's been a while since you played. The story is kinda, can I say, retarded. You'll see.

Multi-player is better than I expected and slightly disappointing, but the disappointment was my own expectations. Also the collector's edition gives you extra costumes. Major plus.

Graphics are fantastic to say the least. Definitely the blu-ray quality you expect from the PS3.

Sound, on mine at least, is a bit glitchy at times, and some of the voices sound retarded. Guile and E-Honda for instance.

Overall I give this game a 8.5 out of 10

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, EXTREMELY Frustrating., May 16, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Street Fighter IV Collector's Edition (Video Game)
Great fighting game. A lot of really good players out there. I've been playing video games since 1987 and I must say that this game has the most superhuman/supercheap AI ever made. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING. On the highest difficulties, it does things that I think are literally physically impossible with a regular controller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Street Fighter IV Collector's Edition, April 21, 2009

I've been a fan of Street Fighter since Street Fighter II. Street Fighter IV is a nostalgic blast from the past that brings the series back to life with enough classic game play combined with new effects and features to have you drooling all over yourself. The collector's edition has a great new movie (that's horribly dubbed) to set up the storyline for the new game. The soundtrack and mini Ryu figurine are nice bonuses too. Definitely a must have for anyone who is a die hard fan of the Street Fighter series. Newbies (or cheapskates) will probably be happy with just the game...

5.0 out of 5 stars collector, not so much.., March 17, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Street Fighter IV Collector's Edition (Video Game)
the game is a great game, back to the old SF2 side to side style of fighting, but i think the collector edition isnt worth it, it came with a dvd and cd, and a mini figurine of ryu, that i somehow managed to break in half...? the dvd is a sequel to the SF2 animated movie that was released some years ago, and the animation style is totally different and there was no blood? i havent listened to the cd at all, and the "guide" that came with it was a picture book, with the new characters special moves... so all in all, the game is awesome, but just the game, so dont get the collector edition
