Great guide!,
This review is from: Street Fighter IV: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
Don't listen to the guy who wants pics of every move in every combo. You already have pics of every move, why do you need to see it in the combo section as well. There's one combo example with pics, then the guide lists the rest of the combos. There's great strategy in the guide for every character, plus frame data in the back of the book. I've never seen frame data in a US guide before so this was a great addition and more guides should include it. 5 stars!

Great guide for rusty SF fans or Newbies!!,

This guide is one of the best I've seen or purchased in the last few years! Due to internet it seems like a lot of guides are rushed and end up being based off of demo/test games so, they tend to not list everything available or whats all to be done.Yes, I suppose one can find all of this on the web or that the combo lists are in the game menus. But, it really helps to see pictures of the moves. Because sometimes you think you're pulling the move off but, you arnt. Guide has a contents listing to easily flip to whatever you're looking for. Yes, that may seem like a duh for guides but, i'm surprised how many guides seem to not have content listings or that make sense and index listings. Everything is laid out nice and professional. No confusion on what you need to look up it's all simple layouts and show's exactly what you want. I also liked how the guide mentioned about how online play vs arcade play and explains the pro's and con's to both. Seems like a lot of newer gamers have no concept behind how an online match works or that some take advantage of the lag thats inevitable. So, one can find a very comprehinsive review of each and every charater and game modes. Plus, some great artwork of the Street Fighter series if you're a fan of the artwork. I've always loved the diffrent styles of artwork capcom has provided for the series over the years and find the art layout to this book to be quite pleasing.

I got this guide off of ebay for .99 cents brand new and I still feel riped off. in my Life In never seen so many errors in a guide its like the writer never played the game. some combos are already in the game and some moves have the wrong image, even the wrong input and it also gives some bad advice( saying some moves or ex moves are not good when they are in fact are the characters deadlist).also the guide shows abel with his regular and alternative costumes side by side, but then looks like the author changed his or her mind about it. this thing is a waste of money you can get much better guides for free on the net and with more accurate information. do not waste your money on this unless you are a collector, otherwise I don't see a reason for buying this.

Decent guide. Great Price!,

The guide itself gets a 3 it get's an extra star for price but that's more for Amazon haha but I won't be putting it in because that would be misleading. If you're expecting an in-depth on characters and match-ups, you're looking in the wrong place. You'd get more and better info from a forum such as shoryuken.com. Don't get me wrong it would do if this is your very first Street Fighter. It's incomplete, this isn't really important but they show Abel's alternate costume and then failed to do so for the rest, and he left out an in-depth on the tornado throw. I do like the frame chart but they are missing the console character's info which is kind of weird seeing how this guide was made for the home versions of the game. You can also get that info online. I picked up a few useful tips, but it wasn't enough where I could call this a worthwhile purchase. At least I didn't get it a full retail.

Poor and Confusing Presentation on an Otherwise Good Guide,
By
This review is from: Street Fighter IV: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
Let me first start by introducing my background in SF. I have played Street Fighter since the second one SF II. I skipped the 3rd one and Marvel vs. Capcom, but did play Capcom vs. SNK.I found the guide extremely confusing. For starters, the basics section is intended to introduce you to SF IV. However, it introduces a lot of mixed terminology and I found myself constantly trying to look it up. The section is not organized in manner that makes it easy for you to look up the terminology and neither is the terminology well defined. An example is, I still don't know what the difference is between chains, links and 2-in-1s are. There are also numerous mistakes in the special moves and there is no mention of the fact that for some characters, depending on how you move the directional pad and press the attack button the attack changes for the same button. There is just a tiny little icon indicating so on some of the pictures. There is about 4-5 pages of for each character, with about 2-3 pages of actual strategies. The book had plenty of basic strategies and information that covers the game well. It has plenty of colored pictures to illustrate the various moves. The Frame Data section is very useful and is a first for strategy guides available in English. I'm giving this book a 2-star due to: - Numerous mistakes, including errors in special moves and incorrect information on how to unlock characters. - Poor presentation. No matter how much good information you present, if it lacks proper presentation the reader will miss the point. - Although a very thick book, it had a lot of redundant images. I would rather have more strategies or pictures of combos performed rather than pictures of light, medium and heavy punches. I can easily try these out myself. The bottom line is, I went online to[...] and found a SF IV guide there. Their guide (so far I have only read the basic portion) and it is so much better presented that I was wondering why I was paying for this guide. My suggestion, try the free guides first. There are plenty at different gaming sites [...] than pay for a guide that has too many mistakes with poor presentation!!! Obviously this book was not properly proof read.

Street Fighter IV Strategy Guide by Prima,
By
This review is from: Street Fighter IV: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
As strategy guides go, most are not needed for games like Street Fighter. With enough in-depth help from the game's challege mode, training mode, and a move list that can be viewed while pausing the game, one could argue the same about this guide.Nevertheless, this guide offers quite a lot. With clear strategies for each character in the game, helpful hints, and secrets revealed the strategy guide from Prima is a great tool to add to your enjoyment of Street Fighter IV. My only real gripe about it is one of clashing opinions between myself and the author; his tier placement for charcters. He writes each character's stregths and weaknesses and places them on a tier rating that is about 50% correct from my experiences with the game. It's not that he is wrong or does a bad job. His strategies on each character are accurate. But in playing the game myself, I have found that I disagree with his tier system on characters like E. Honda and Chun Li. I feel that he gives some characters a lower rating than what they truly are capable of in the right hands. However, this is just opinion and his is just as right and/or wrong as my own. When it comes to the moves and strageies of the game he is dead on correct. I found the guide to be very useful and I recommend it to anyone who wants to master the moves of their favorite character(s).

I was expecting a standard run-of-the-mill gaming guide, but what I got instead is something above average in terms of information and appearance. Inside and out, this paperback has had some love put into it.
