5.0 out of 5 stars Skip the import, May 23, 2005

I haven't listened to the import, I assumed it was the same as the original, with the usual added tracks. But apparently it's missing songs. I can't imagine why someone decided to leave these songs off, but I liked the two songs that another reviewer says are missing, so I won't touch this ripoff. The original however, listed at the top, is one of the best albums in rock history. I'm not rich enough to pay the hugely inflated price, but I hope someone has the sense to release all the Cat Mother albums on CD at a more reasonable cost. These are some of the best albums you'll ever hear, five stars aren't enough. I've been told they're not to everyone's taste, but if you keep an open mind, I doubt you'll ever regret buying any and all Cat Mother albums. They are up there with the Beatles and the Doors in quality, though quite different in style(s). Someone please release these, I don't care if you remaster them or not. I'm still listening to the vinyl ones I bought years ago, and loving them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless!!, December 6, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Street Giveth... And The Street Taketh Away (Audio CD)
I am delighted to see that this recording is once again available. I first heard this album in the late sixties, and songs from it have remained current in my mind since then. This band captured acoustic/electric eclecticism before any other groups really thought about combinig such instruments as fiddle and Hammond organ in a single cut. "How I Spent My Summer" is as sixties' political as anyone might ever want. The final tune on the album is a well played "live" jam. Good old Rock and Roll just makes you want to dance, even if you don't know how. And for you trivia fans out there--the banjoist on this album is the guy who plays at the end of "Bluebird" on Buffalo Springfield's 2nd album (Again). Buy this recording--you won't regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff, December 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Street Giveth... And The Street Taketh Away (Audio CD)
I saw Cat Mother and the All Night Newsboys at the Fillmore East in Greenwich Village way back when. It was a great concert and I bought the album and loved it. Loaned it to someone and never got it back. Glad to get this CD. The music is varied. Some tracks are deep, some frivilous, some spark memories, some are toe-tappers, all are good. "Good Old Rock 'n' Roll" can get you dancing. "How I Spent My Summer" brings back memories of some of my activist days. My favorite has to be "Bramble Bush," a melancholy piece with the mood heightened by rain and thunderstorms. "Track in 'A'" is a solid instrumental. An unusual album from an unusual group. Try it, you'll like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cat Mother's Excellence Goes Way Beyond This One, January 3, 2003

From day one, way back when, at it's original release, this has been a favorite of mine. Though Rock and Roll was the hit I believe it to be the weakest cut here (I still love it). But their subsequent albums were also magical with Albion Do Wah being my favorite. I want the phone number of the person who is sitting on the rest of their catalog to get then re-released on CD. When I love all of their songs as much as I do I will be very persuasive. If they come out grab them quick, purely delightful and you will be humming the tunes lovingly for the rest of your life. A CM album would make it to the desert island with just a limit of 5 cds/albums. That good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Among the best rock music there is, April 1, 2005
This review is from: The Street Giveth... And The Street Taketh Away (Audio CD)
All four of Cat Mother's albums are on my list of the best rock music ever recorded (OK, it's a big list). This one isn't their best album, but I still listen to it a lot. I pretty much agree with the other reviewers, I can't wait for the other albums to come out on CD. I'm not sure where they get off charging $80.00, but if the price becomes reasonable, I'm buying them all. If you aren't familiar with them, you're missing out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jimi Hendrix loved them!, November 6, 2010
This review is from: The Street Giveth... And The Street Taketh Away (Audio CD)
I saw Cat Mother warm up Jimi Hendrix back in 1968. He was so enamored with his warm-up band that he co-produced their first album. How many albums did Jimi produce? This is the only one I know of and it is outstanding! I have a vinyl copy, but the world needs a CD copy that costs less that $99.00! I also have vinyl copies of two other albums: "Cat Mother" and "Cat Mother ... Last Chance Dance". They rocked!

5.0 out of 5 stars Reunited, February 5, 2010
This review is from: The Street Giveth... And The Street Taketh Away (Audio CD)
I've spent decades trying to replace this album, long lost from my collection. Before the internet I searched the record stores at every opportunity. When the www was available I did numerous searches through the years with little or no results. Finally I've gotten a decent hit. This is one of my all time favorite albums. Personal favorite cuts include "Marie" and "Charlie's Waltz."

Absolutely astounding stuff. Hendrix knew what he was doing when he produced this group. Never get tired of hearing these songs and even though it's over 35 years since they were first recorded, they sound as vibrant and inspired as they were way back then. You won't be disappointed.

How the hell does an album like this take so long to be released? Release the others before I drop dead. OK?

Great music. Too bad that because it is out of print, they stick you hard and deep in price.
