No, not Sly Stallone. Chuck Zito. I've never been the violent type. But I can't say I've never wanted to sock someone in the lip for mouthing off. No, not Sly Stallone. Chuck Zito. I've never been the violent type. But I can't say I've never wanted to sock someone in the lip for mouthing off. Let's just say that I was able to live vicariously through Chuck Zito's autobiography. What I found to be most interesting was the level of detail associated with his stories of brutality. Additionally, he gives a SCARY account of prison - it's no wonder HBO hired him as a consultant/actor for the hit series OZ. WARNING: This book is not for the squeamish. His book is graphic and often times disturbing - just the kind of reading material to keep my attention! Now, I'm not one to read a book cover-to-cover over the course of three days. But this was just "one of those books" I couldn't put down. If you're interested in a first-hand account of bike gangs, violence, and prison, then this is the book for you. I would venture to say that the most memorable part of this book was the beatdown Chuck Zito delivered to Jean-Claude VanDamm at Scores Gentleman's Club in New York City - it's classic. Upon reading this book, I couldn't help but realize how truly "boring" my life was in the context of things. Please feel free to disagree with my opinion; let us compare opinions, invite a few more points of view, and debate, like the humans we are.

4.0 out of 5 stars Roaring good read, December 10, 2002

Mark Correal (Franklin, New Jersey United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Street Justice (Hardcover)
Figuring that I owed the author for flattening Van Damme, I purchased this book with little expectation other than reading a collection of head banging stories. Instead, I found a well written biography of a man whose sense of honor, guides him through a very interesting life. The biography follows the author from early childhood, through his boxing and martial arts training, into his membership with the Hell's Angel's, his ability to customize cars and motorcycles, his bodyguarding business, prison time and his career in the acting field. Here is a personality who is equally at home with outlaw motorcyclists, celebrities and the nightlife club scene. Yet he gives the impression that the average guy could be a valued friend. The reader is left with the impression that while the author might knock you out if you challenged his honor, he wouldn't steal your wallet while you were out cold. Nor would he allow anyone else to take it. Likewise his relationship with his parents rings a familar note to all us middle age baby boomers, who share feelings of unresolved issues, guilt and faded memories of our own relationships with our parents.
A well written, entertaining book with plenty of photos. Get this one.
Zito has inspired me. Tonight I am buying a Harley to cruise around on. But I better help my wife with the dishes first or she will clobber me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blindingly good read! Buy it today, April 19, 2006
This review is from: Street Justice (Paperback)
Having seen Chuck Zito in the TV show Oz, I was real keen to read his book to find out more about the man, and I was not disappointed, I can tell you. Like the character "Big Mervyn" he plays in the show Oz, the Chuckster is 100% real man: fair in his views, kind to his friends, and not afraid to dish out a slap when it's required. And sometimes when it's not! His story about punching Jean-Claude Van Damme in the clinkers was hilarious, as was his tale of pushing the legendary Italian-American TV hardman Luigi Alvin through a plate glass window - six floors up! Thankfully Luigi landed in the swimming pool and later saw the funny side too, from ICU. If you're interested in Hells Angels, the Mafia, bikers, or scholastic philosophy, I would strongly encourage you all to buy this book from Amazon TODAY!!!! Thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining read you won't want to put down., September 9, 2005
This review is from: Street Justice (Paperback)
This autobiography was an interesting journey through the life of Chuck Zito. I didn't know much about him before reading this book but I love the show Oz and wanted to learn a little more about Chuck Zito after hearing that he had actually served time in jail. It was a captivating read which I felt was well written although a bit repetitive. I don't know how accurate or truthful Mr. Zito is in this book regarding his involvement with the Hells Angels or any of the physical encounters he faced. If the reason he was put in jail is accurate and his side of the story is honest, then it is truley a scary story of the American Justice system. You will not belive why he was put in prison and had to serve time until you read it. That said as an autobiography, i do not know how truthful it is, but as a story of a man who stands up for what he believes in its a great read!

2.0 out of 5 stars Chain Puller, February 9, 2004
This review is from: Street Justice (Paperback)
This book chronicals the life of a guy who grew up discontented, maybe even neglected by his parents, or at least his father, was always rebellious and eventually joined the Hells Angels. It seems from the earliest age he was struggling to prove himself, which he continues to do in this book. He succeeds in pulling his own chain, primarily, focusing on how tough he is and how little he cares about conforming to society's expectations--to the point that he becomes unlikeable. On the upside, I didn't quit reading it--interesting enough to lead me to the end. Then I through it away. I didn't care to keep it on my bookshelf. As I write this, there are more used ones for sale here than there are reviews. Not a good sign.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good, September 13, 2005
This review is from: Street Justice (Hardcover)
The book is about the life and times of biker / bodyguard / actor Chuck Zito. Its well written and gives details about some of the more (im)famous moments of the Hell's ANgels motorcycle gangs recent past.

Zito comes across as more intelligent and elloquent than I expected.

This book is great and highly entertaining read the chronicles the life of Chuck Zito -- involving growing up in NY, boxing, being a Hells Angel (including doing jail time) and his career as an actor and bodyguard to the stars. The book is filled with anecdotes and life philosophy regarding being a full-on tough guy and his way of living to the max.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Likeable Guy Comes Clean, March 26, 2004

I liked this book alot. Chuck comes clean with his own insecurities and regrets even though he lives the 'tough guy' life. It is an honest monologue about growing up in NY and becoming involved in a lifestyle that todays posers want to emulate but can't. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about Chuck Zito, who obviously set his own course and sailed it.

4.0 out of 5 stars street justice, November 30, 2004
This review is from: Street Justice (Hardcover)
This was a very quick read for me. I was done in a couple hours. Anybody curious about Chuck Zito or interested in the Hells Angels should read it. There's a fair amount of chest pounding, but a lot of reality, too.
