Ray Liotta (Goodfellas) delivers an intense, electrifying performance in this explosive follow-up to the gritty urban crime thriller Street Kings. Liotta plays Detroit detective Marty Kingston, the leader of an undercover narcotics team, whose members are being systematically murdered one by one. To solve the brutal killings, Kingston joins forces with a cocky, young homicide detective. But neither of them is prepared for the shocking corruption their investigation will uncover--stunning secrets that will set both men on a violent collision course with betrayal and vengeance.

4.0 out of 5 stars A second shot above the rest. April 8, 2011
    Format:DVD
I liked the original street kings alot, and so when I read that Ray Liotta and Clifton Powell were in a sequel, two actors I really love and don't see enough of...I had to pre-order it. Though this is a direct to DVD title I came into it with some expectations and understandings. I expected their to be crisp writing that would separate itself from the original, I expected great acting, and I expected a decent production value. I understood going in that direct to DVD can mean sub par production value as sometimes all of the money is spent on the talent in front of the screen. I understood that given the subject matter it would be hard to do things that the first movie did without seeming like a clone, and I also understood..I never heard of this director.
Though I can not say that Street Kings: Motor City is in any way an original idea of or for a film, I would have to say they took the goose and squeezed a little golden egg out of the franchise. Motor City is engaging, and emotional, fast and violent. It endears itself to you with brilliant lighting and superb sound foley work. There is a scene of Marty Kingston walking through a graffiti laden skeletal edifice that was simply inspired. The camera work is all top notch. Chris Fisher uses brilliant angles and shots and excelled at the quick and deadly FX he chose. The Story is not original and somewhat predictable, though there are a few unexpected curves in the road. Street Kings: Motor City though not an original in anyway carves a niche for itself in the overpopulated gritty crime drama genera with excellent acting. Ray Liotta and Clifton Powell knock it out the park. Cliften Powell did not have as much screen time as I had hoped but he left me satisfied.

2.0 out of 5 stars Routine crooked cop drama May 11, 2011
    Format:Blu-ray
The first Street Kings had a lot going for it, which made it a bona-fide guilty pleasure in the crooked cop drama, but this direct-to-DVD sequel sadly doesn't. Ray Liotta stars as a veteran Detroit cop family man whose old apparently dirty partner has just been murdered. He's teamed with a young up and comer detective (Shawn Hatosy) to solve the crime, but what results is a whole pool of corruption and deceit in the process. I don't want to spoil anything else here, but all I can really say is that Street Kings 2 is fairly formulaic for most of its running time. Though it does deliver a genuine shock as it winds to a close, it doesn't offer anything that hasn't been done to death within the genre already. Not terrible and worth a look if you enjoyed the Keanu Reeves-starring original, but don't expect it to be anywhere near as enjoyable.

1.0 out of 5 stars all i can say is wow January 12, 2012
    Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
i watched this movie thinking " its ray liotta, its gotta be good"...... BUT no, the whole thing was very predictable, everything down to the end, it just kinda sucked. the "supporting roles" ether over acted or under acted, they didn't sell it. and dont get me started on the partner... who hasent seen a cop movie with a way to young over achieving cocky a** cop who thinks he has something to prove and who thinks he knows it all, hmmmmmm lets see, nobody. from the moment he came on screen the movie just went down hill all the way to the not very good end, most of the time i watch movies i will watch it all the way through, weather its a bad movie or not, this one took me 3 times of stopping and starting back up.

for people looking for a movie to watch this in my opinion is not a good movie, but for collectors like me, who want "full series" of movies that were favorites (the first one) then id get it, but dont get your hopes up for the movies "cinematic value"

if theres something else you have to do, like pay your taxes, get a root canal, or do do the dishes i would chose those

2.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but not satisfying June 9, 2011
    Format:DVD
This movie is interesting with its plot, but its main characters are unlikable and the conclusion is a huge let down. "Street Kings 2" would've been better if its main character played by Ray Liotta, was portrayed as the protagonist instead of an antagonist. Another thing that would make this movie better is if it had more action scenes and Liotta's partner should've been the bad guy considering how cocky and irritating he can be.

Anyway, this film would've been better if its issues were fixed. Skip this flick, its disappointing. 4.5/10

2.0 out of 5 stars IN NAME SEQUEL ONLY May 10, 2011
    Format:DVD
"Dirty" director Chris Fisher's cynical police corruption melodrama "Street Kings 2: Motor City" shares some narrative threads with its superior theatrical predecessor--director David Ayer's "Street Kings." Meaning, this straight-to-video potboiler qualifies as an in-name-only sequel. Although none of the main characters reprise their roles, Clifton Powell--who appeared in the original "Kings" plays an entirely different character. The setting has been shifted from Los Angeles to Detroit. "Grizzly Mountain" scenarist Jeremy Haft and freshman scribe Ed Gonzalez rely on Fritz Lang's 1953 crime thriller "The Big Heat" for the revenge part of their plot. Ray Liotta's presence as treacherous narcotics detective Marty Kingston, and the majestic urban setting of Detroit are the only two things that distinguish the predictable, often unsavory "Street Kings 2." Aside from Liotta and Shawn Hatosy, the cast makes little impression, and the hard-boiled dialogue is forgettable. Nobody says anything worth quoting. The shoot-outs generate neither suspense nor excitement. Fisher and his writers blow the killer's identity about 30 minutes into this half-baked whodunit, and murderer's identity is no revelation. Spotting the killer is rather easy since the filmmakers provide red herrings so obvious that you know they are distractions.

This formulaic murder-mystery opens three years before a Detroit cop killing spree. Metro Narcs swap lead with angry drug dealers after they blow their cover. Marty Kingston (Ray Liotta of "Goodfellas") shoots a coked-up thug. Marty's slugs don't stop Mikey (Tim Holmes of "Asian Task Force") who disarms him and then shoots Marty in the right thigh before back-up arrives to blast Mikey. Marty and his crew confiscate $3 million dollars.

2.0 out of 5 stars I love Ray Liotta, but...
This was cheesy, formulaic, forshadowing, got weaker as it went on, etc, etc. Ray, you are still the man, but don't do another movie like this. :)
