2.0 out of 5 stars A dubious double, September 8, 2007
This review is from: Street Life & Hard Time (Idol) (Mass Market Paperback)
Street Life, the first of the two stories in this double edition, is set on the streets of London. Ben, a young lad seeks adventure leaving behind a comfortable home and is befriended by a street kid named Lee. But Ben's adventure leads to involvement in prostitution and kidnapping. In Hard Times we follow three very different men assigned to serve at Her Majesty's pleasure at Cairncrow Prison. Once there they variously suffer at the hands of the officers and fellow inmates, and gradually in one way or another make a place for themselves.
Street Life is probably the more interesting story come thriller; Hard Time suffering from too many repetitive long and drawn out M/M encounters. But both suffer from a lack of convincing character development; maybe it's too much to ask from such writing, but surely the intended effect of M/M encounters is heightened if we have a greater feeling for the characters.
