5.0 out of 5 stars A Reality Check
I had the pleasure of hearing Jihad read from his book "Street Life" at a book club gathering in Oakland, CA. The reading was so enthralling that I had to purchase his book. I was not disappointed. I finished it in a weekend. As I read it, it reminded me of Sistah Souljah's "Coldest Winter Ever." Most definitely, elements of street life are glamorized in our society...

3.0 out of 5 stars This Book Definitely Has A Good Message
I thought that Street Life had a good start to it as well as a good message to young black men of what will inevitably happen to them if they choose the street life. This book also had pretty good jokes from the main character. The reason I gave the book 3 stars though is near the end of the book this thing just went all over the place. I know the author was trying to...

I had the pleasure of hearing Jihad read from his book "Street Life" at a book club gathering in Oakland, CA. The reading was so enthralling that I had to purchase his book. I was not disappointed. I finished it in a weekend. As I read it, it reminded me of Sistah Souljah's "Coldest Winter Ever." Most definitely, elements of street life are glamorized in our society. But, Jihad keeps it extremely real. The good and the bad. The money and the mayhem. The life and the loss. His book is not only for those hardheaded kids who think that life in the streets is their destiny, but also for those kids who think that they are better than their peers. It's a reality check for us all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Street Life, July 7, 2004
This review is from: Street Life (Paperback)
Street Life is a positive book for young and old alike. People who have been through bad times as well as people who are going through the struggle will benifit from this. This book is truley encouraging for young brothers and sisters who don't belive there is hope for a brighter futur. I have read it twice just to remind me that I have a son that may go in any direction. When he is of age, Street Life will be on my top ten list as required readings. I can tell that the author put his heart and soul into the chapters. He has written this in a way that is clear and cut to the ends and outs of many children growing up in the world today. I recommend this as a handbook to anyone caught up in the struggle.

Street Life is a VERY INSPIRATIONAL...REAL...IN YOUR FACE journey of LIFE in the HOOD. This book is DEFINITELY a MUST READ for the kid that has a GLAMOURIZED perception of Living Life in the FAST LANE. STREET LIFE should be RECOMMENDED reading for any HARD HEAD youth that needs to be SCARED STRAIGHT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Talk About it Jihad, June 17, 2004

Brah', thank you so much for giving me something to hand to my children. Lincoln's difficult life steered him towards drugs and hanging in the streets even though he had his mother and Akbar guiding him on the positive. He willingly chose to play the game despite the inevitable consequences and paid the price, WILLINGLY. Gotta give him props, he stood behind what he truly believed in. Which in my eyes, teaches the dark side of taking responsibility. But at what cost. The accident, his first eye opener which crippled him and his jail time, the second eye opener aided in his transformation and gave him a third strike at life.

Keep them coming because we have little brothers and sistah's coming into this life everyday who need guidance from not from people who KNEW someone caught out there but from people who LIVED out there.

Your sister in Jersey,
Stephanie A. F. Johnson

3.0 out of 5 stars This Book Definitely Has A Good Message, November 11, 2004
This review is from: Street Life (Paperback)
I thought that Street Life had a good start to it as well as a good message to young black men of what will inevitably happen to them if they choose the street life. This book also had pretty good jokes from the main character. The reason I gave the book 3 stars though is near the end of the book this thing just went all over the place. I know the author was trying to send a positive message out but I started getting confused because I was like "ok has this book turned from fiction to nonfiction, is the author writing about himself or what?" It's ok to take pieces of reality and put it into fiction but this just got crazy. Although I was disappointed towards the end of the book, I would still recommend at least borrowing this from someone and reading it if you don't buy it yourself.

This book was incredible! It was a page turner. Street Life kept my attention from beginning to end. I allowed my thirteen year old daughter to read this book and she says it gave her a new perspective on life. Street Life Teaches its readers how to overcome any obstacle they may encounter. It is definitly a tool that can be utilized to teach our youth. I would strongly reccommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars literary genius, June 30, 2004
This review is from: Street Life (Paperback)
It's about time. WOW. Not since Manchild in the Promise Land have I read anything that remotely comes close to Streetlife. This is the best book I've ever read. And the story inspired me to want more and do more, cause if this brotha overcame what he did, then I feel that I can do anything. This book is the best book I've ever read, and it should be required reading at every University and high school in the nation. Streetlife is just so real and in your face. If you haven't read this book than you are in for a real treat to say the least.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, March 25, 2005
This review is from: Street Life (Paperback)
I think Street Life is such a good book. After I read that book it made me stop and think. One message that he sent out was never giving up. I had to let my boyfriend and my couisn read the book because they are doing the same exact thing did Jihad did. They think its all play and games when its not. Jihad your book is real and you are the best, Dont stop doing what you do best and dont let no one put you down at all.
