Teco Jackson aka Homicide loves the life as a petty thief and stealing Johnnies. Sleeping at the houses of different women and having just enough to get by has been a way of life for as long as he can remember. With a chance encounter with Bashi, the leader of the infamous SB crew, Teco must step up his thuggle in order to survive the life that is currently not his own anymore.
Gail Indigo Que aka GQ is the right hand woman to Bashi. She will break a sucka down like lightening and enjoys being the go to person whenever Bashi is not around. As Homicide joins the crew, GQ is not impressed or enthused about the pretty boy thief. GQ also cannot stand by while the position that should be rightfully hers is weaseled right from under her. Bashi knew the moment that he laid eyes on Homicide that he was meant for his crew. With only a few members, Bashi could easily mold Homicide into the ranking of second in command. Bashi also knew that Homicide and GQ would eventually go toe to toe and only the one left standing would prevail. The first installment of Street Life is a good beginning to what seems to be an entertaining series. At times, I felt like putting my hands around Homicide to let him in on what was really going on. I figured nobody in their right mind could be that stupid, but maybe that was the author's way to making you get into the book and characters. In any event, I look forward to the second part. Is It Suicide or Murder?,
By Claudia Brown-Mosley "Author" (Los Angeles, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Street Life Series: Is It Suicide or Murder? (Paperback)
THE STREET LIFE SERIES Is It Suicide Or Murder? by Kevin Weeks introduces Teco Jackson a.k.a. Homicide a well-known trouble maker in West Philly. Grand theft auto is Homicide's crime of choice. That's until he hooks up with Bashi, the leader of the Strictly Business (SB) crew, and moves on to a bigger and better hustle - drug dealing. When Bashi chooses Homicide to be his second in command, dissension in the ranks takes the crew through a drastic turn of events that even Bashi didn't see coming. When Bashi turns up dead, Homicide goes after the killer the only way he knows how. Will the killer be friend or foe?
Kevin Weeks has a good story line topped with a fresh style to bring to the street lit arena. I felt there was unnecessary information in the book that didn't necessary keep the plot moving forward. The book would also benefit from editing for smoother dialogue. All in all, Kevin's originality bursts through the pages of THE STREET LIFE SERIES Is It Suicide Or Murder, so I predict an even better second installment in this series. This review is from: The Street Life Series: Is It Suicide or Murder? (Paperback)
Teco Jackson grew up on the mean streets of Philadelphia. Street Life is the only thing he knows, Teco starts off as a car thief but after a chance encounter, he finds himself a member of the notorious SBC (Strictly Business Crew). Teco becomes a good earner for the crew and soon gains the nickname of "Homicide" as he is afraid of nothing and doesn't back down from anyone. As a result, he becomes the right hand man to SB boss Mujaheed Bashi Fiten. Teco earns the respect of all the members of the crew except one--the only female in the crew, Gail Indigo Que aka GQ. Teco soon finds himself in a power struggle with GQ as she is not thrilled over an outsider being promoted before her. When things finally calm down, and GQ and Teco appear to have called a truce, Bashi turns up dead. Soon, Teco is in the fight of his life, as he tries to find out who killed Bashi and why as the clues begin to point to him. The killer will shock and surprise you! The Street Life Series: Is It Suicide or Murder is a fast-paced, drama-filled story that captures the reader's attention from beginning to end. Kevin M. Weeks is an author on the rise and I look forward to reading more from him! Reviewed by Shay C of PeoplewholoveGoodBooks.

Weeks' Career Begins Strong with SUICIDE OR MURDER,
This review is from: The Street Life Series: Is It Suicide or Murder? (Paperback)
I've had the pleasure to read all three of Kevin M. Weeks books in THE STREET LIFE SERIES that have been released so far, and SUICIDE OR MURDER begins the series off with characters that are easy to relate to, a storyline that flows and issues that we all have to deal with. Not just another urban book, Weeks puts his heart and I suspect alot of himself in this book, and the result is a read that anyone will enjoy.

(RAW Rating: 3.5) - Homicide,

This review is from: The Street Life Series: Is It Suicide or Murder? (Paperback)
The first book in THE STREET LIFE SERIES by Kevin M. Weeks introduces readers to Teco, a car booster who finds himself entrenched in the drug game. Teco searches for money, power, and respect in the streets of Philly and soon finds himself linked with Bashi, the leader of the Strictly Business Crew. Teco quickly impresses Bashi and soon becomes Bashi's right-hand man and is nicknamed Homicide for his gully demeanor. This doesn't sit so well with Gail, a.k.a. GQ, who held the position before Teco's arrival. When Bashi turns up missing, Teco sets out to right the wrong.
Weeks has a great concept with this series, and Teco's character came across as somewhat likeable. However, there were a number of seemingly irrelevant characters injected throughout the book, and they seldom served to move the central story forward. I think with a more focused plot and deeper characterizations, this could be a great street lit series. Reviewed by CandaceK of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers

Always Do What You Did; and You Will Always Get What You Always Got,
This review is from: The Street Life Series: Is It Suicide or Murder? (Paperback)
Dope, weed and money lead people on the right side of the law to wonder if the risks of jail or an early grave are even worth it. In The Street Life Series (Is It Suicide or Murder?), we meet Teco Johnson, a known car thief, who is very confident and comfortable with his level of criminal activity. At 21, Teco is basically on the streets with an array of women who he can lay up with when his time permits.
The Strictly Business Crew has money, power and respect in West Philly. Although dope isn't Teco's game, he's decided to take Bashi, the leader of Strictly Business Crew, up on his offer. Once a member, Teco sets it off! That persuasively, breezy cat that used to steal cars and jostle women has been transformed into Homicide, the Enforcer of the Strictly Business Crew. Earning a rep for putting in serious work when needed, Teco a.k.a Homicide finds that cars and dope are two totally different fields, yet he can manage, or can he? When loyalties are called into question, Teco a.k.a Homicide realizes that he might be in over his head. The Street Life Series (Is It Suicide Or Murder?) is a good notion with a likeable central character, yet (and I stress this) we meet too many unnecessary characters that we will later discover are irrelevant to the development of the story. Hopefully this will not be an issue in The Street Life Series: Male Exotic Stage Life. Reviewed by Nardsbaby for Urban-Reviews (Rating Scale: 3 Books=Noteworthy) |
