2.0 out of 5 stars Sonny in the "Golden Age", April 29, 2010

This review is from: 42nd Street Pete's Sleazy Grindhouse Picture Show (DVD)
When I was younger, Sonny Landham's shirtless scene in "Predator" turned me on so bad, words can't even describe it. More than a decade later, I was blessed to learn that he did "adult" films. Some of those films are just nudey, R-rated stuff, but some of it is the real deal.
In "Abigail Leslie," Sonny shows the frontal goods but stops there. Here he is getting busy in a threeway. Unfortunately, you almost never see all of his body or see his face outside of profile. Plus, they focus on the other man in the menage. Whereas Sonny looked ethnically different from the whites and Blacks in "Predator," he doesn't stand out here. I don't know if his appearance would get flagged as an "interracial scene." Plus, he wasn't as buff as he would be in the mid-1980s.

It's funny how the cover of this DVD prides itself on the streaks, lines, and cigbutts in these cheapie films. They definitely want to bring back the dark-alley shadiness of the 1970s before the VCR's revolution on the blue industry. Some people call this time a "golden age" of blue movies. Harry Reems and Seka are gods from this time. Those films get applauded because they have developed plots and humor. However, Sonny's scene is short on talk and longer on adult action.

You gotta know what you are walking into in advance when watching these films. You gotta be open to low-budgetiness. I'm glad I could check off seeing "Special Order" as a hardcore Landham fan. However, those who like high-quality stuff may not like these flicks in the slightest.
