Truly the cream, the best. If you buy one, take this one.,

If one were to ask me what love is, I would put on "Stranger to Love," "Blue Love," or "turn." "Best of your heart," "Destiny" and "Stay" are certainly what emotion is all about. This is Chaka Khan at her finest. This album is the reason why we love her so much. She gets inside of your soul and makes you feel every mood, emotion, and each thought behind the words. Fittingly, this album also showcases the style, artistry, and genius of Rufus. "Take Time" and "Street Player" are wonderful displays of what bands were before programming. You will love this album. Other Rufus/Chaka Khan efforts are great, but none compare to this in terms of completeness, warmth, and fulness. You will love every cut. Not overproduced, just emotion and talent. Most artists get better as time goes on. However, this early work will never be eclipsed. All of the other Rufus/Chaka works have one or two fantastic cuts. This one bats 1000. Quality from start to finish. From a real Chaka junkie, this is the best.

Rufus and Chaka kicked Butt!,
By Lorraine Boyd (Charlotte, NC USA) - See all my reviews

This is by far one of their best albums or cd! I bought this album years ago, 1978, to be exact! It was my first album I ever bought!! I still have it somewhere in a collection of music! There are no bands like Rufus and there are no bands from R&B that can play like this! They had some of the best musicians in the industry! The singing is superb!! Chaka is the best and she will always be!! Because I was in love at at the time or ( so I thought), " The Best of my Heart", was the stand out for me! Also "Blue Love" as well as the dramatic "Stay"! These songs will outshine any songs written today! They had so much style and they were about being true, and the words were fantastic as well as memorable! Too bad people are not as "lyrically inclined" as they were back then! It is about the bottom line now! Your lyrics don't have to mean anything! The music had more than a "hook" or a "loop". They were not rehashed with beats to emphasis the nothingness!

Another Solid Record from Rufus & Chaka,
By
This review is from: Street Player (Audio CD)
'Streetplayer' is another great record from Rufus & Chaka, this record has them placed in a more mellow smooth jazz\r&b setting, Chaka's voice is so great on this record! and Tony as always adds his unigue voice to the mix, 'Streetplayer' was alittle ahead of its time for 1978, this record is a concept album which needs to be heard in it's entirety, that's why only two singles were released 'Stay' & 'Blue Love', now this gem has been remastered, the original cd release had some audio flaws, those have been cleaned up... the remastered sound on this cd is fantastic! the sound is crisp and full, i'm hearing things i've haven't heard before... this is a limited edition so get it while you can.

Growing up as a teen in the seventies, I listened to a lot of Rufus. I thought they were one of the most progressive artists of their time, and me being a white boy growing up in the urban inner city, I could really identify with this genre. This album got little recognition because Chakas long awaited debute album with I'm every women overshadowed it,however this is a must have for collectors. The fusion of r/b,rock,and jazz sounds flow throughout along with chaka great vocal abilities. Two great instrumentals let rufus showcase the band. great ballads also.

One of my favorites,

The instrumentation is wonderful, and you can't beat Chaka's voice. I have fond memories of the album cover being on the actual record - so cool. The title cut, to me, is the best - it is quintessential 70s funk. "Don't Let them get the best" and "Stay" are also good. This is old-school R&B funk at its best.

this is hands down their best album. I wouldn't say it if it weren't true! Guitar player and co-lead singer, Tony Madien's skills really comes to life on this project.

Rufus at it's finest!,

If not equal to Chicago's firey cover one year later, the tital track of CK's last official album with Rufus is a very untypical Khan/Tony Maidan "duet"-needless to say Chaka shines brightest. There's an unusual jazz-rock sensability to this set- most notable on "Turn",featuring oddball chordal changes that sound like a complete mistake but draw in the listener. The quick tempo changes of the catchy "Blue Love" give even Chaka a vocal challange that she of courses passes with flying colors.Last of her highlites from this would be "Destiny",a softly jazzy number with a relaxed Khan chirping a joyous lyric."Take Time" is my favorite moment by far,a classic Rufus instrumental in which the bass burbles, the percussion splatters and David Wolinski's keyboards take over for Chaka's vocals. This is classic Rufus and the perfect way to end this stage of their career. As with any Rufus album, don't expect the mundane or typical-expect originality all the way!

If you find the cd save it it will be worth gold! This cd was one of the best by this group my fav is street player ( this was a remake from the group Chicago ). The ballads are sweet the uptempo song are funky! They always had cross over hits r& b and pop hits. This was one the last great cd by the group . When Chaka started doing more solo stuff the band did not get along as well. This is Real music!
