5.0 out of 5 stars a rotary book w/ real substance
i thought this was going to be a bit of a fluff book. i have seen most books of rotary mazdas and own many, and several are quite shallow and doesn't even deserve to be called coffee table books. this one, however, is quite detailed technically. it's nicely organized, and i don't really care that it's black and white. if you're interested in technical aspects of mazda...

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat informative
Although the title implies that someone will actually "build maximum horsepower", it's more of a coffee table book. The book is informative and entertaining to read but there isn't any engine specific aplications covered; just the processes someone needs to partake to make such power. In short, balance the engine's moving parts, port it, supercharge or turbo and make sure...

This book has it all, from the history of the rotary,to where mazda is working with hydrogen. The auther not only included every mod possible , and how, but also there are litaraly, pages of reference(i.e. shop numbers, and what after-market companies are good.

Excellent book. Thorough, well written, easy to understand. Author is very knowedgable on the subject. If you plan to modify your rotary engine or just want a better understanding of how it and its various components work and work together this is the best book on the subject and I have them all.

just cant say enough of how awesome this book it, i bought it while back(figured i should leave some input ) but has lots of useful information for someone new to the Mazda RX-7 or even someone who has tinkered with the rotary motor for few years(as i have) , has some history and shows progression and very good diagrams and bits of info.

but for the price its something well worth the money.

This review is from: Street Rotary HP1549: How to Build Maximum Horsepower & Reliability into Mazda's 12a, 13b & Renesis Engines (Mass Market Paperback)
Before this book I only had a vague idea of what was required to get more performance out of a rotary engine .
The book details modifications pitfalls and give an all round insight on what could be done for extra power .

Although the title implies that someone will actually "build maximum horsepower", it's more of a coffee table book. The book is informative and entertaining to read but there isn't any engine specific aplications covered; just the processes someone needs to partake to make such power. In short, balance the engine's moving parts, port it, supercharge or turbo and make sure it's tuned properly. I've read more specific information on enthusiast sites and parts catalogs. Never use inserts in the auxilary sleves, THEY DO COME OFF! Atkins Rotary caries single cnc machined pieces. Other than that, it's definately a good read and does try to teach the reader although the scope is varied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Covering The Basics..., April 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This Book Is The First & Most Helpful Book I Have Purchased In My Endeavors To Upgrade My '87 RX-7. It May Not Go Into The Greatest Detail Into The Tuning Of Components But, Is Excellent In Giving Knowledge On & Pointing You In The Direction Of Any Upgrades Neccessary. Giving The Proper Do's & Don'ts Through Out The Book Was Helpful.
Although, Much Of The Turbo Information Was Withheld For The TurboCharging Counter Part For This Book, I Thought That It Could Have Been Covered A Little Better Rather Than Generalizing The Subject & Leaving You. A Little More Detail To What Parts To Expect To Purchase & About What Details Should Be Considered Would Have Been Nice.
Can't Cry Over Spilled Milk, Though. And I Still Recommend This Book.
