Book Description

June 13, 2002
Like freestyle motocross, extreme street riding combines the sport of motorcycling with the spectacle of a thrill show. This book will cover the entire streetbike extreme scene, from the early riders like Knievel and Domokos to the Starboyz and some of the other current popular groups.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Adult/High School-Teens will get a kick out of the thrilling color photos of daring motorcycle stunts captured in this book. The text is irreverent, streetwise, yet informative. Seate gives a brief history of streetbike stunts, dating from 1913, with accompanying photos. There is a 1978 black-and-white picture of Evel Knievel, father of street extreme, flying high above a row of 16 double-decker buses. Another photo shows one of his failed attempts at a trick. The history of the stunt team The Starboyz, known for its stand-up wheelie competitions as well as its frequent run-ins with police officers, is recounted in colloquial prose. Stunt riding is dangerous, and the author warns readers against trying it. With characteristically candid humor, he describes the activities in this book as "completely insane" and almost certain to "result in the destruction of property, death, dismemberment, and the loss of reproductive organs." In this disclaimer, he also absolves himself and his publisher of any legal responsibility for readers who try to perform the stunts. The pages of the book borrow from the graphic styles of slick Web pages with their colorful large-print quotes and quips by stunt riders. One chapter selects members from several teams including the Miami Warriors, Chaindrive, D-Aces, Wheelie Boyz, and others, then highlights certain riders to describe the videos they're featured in, the bikes they use, and their favorite stunts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy...!, December 3, 2004
This review is from: Streetbike Extreme (Paperback)
This book is unbelievable. How these people can do these stunts is beyond belief! They defy all laws of physics (and as the book points out, most laws of man). I have hoisted a few wheelies in my day, but never nothing like this! Way to go, Mike Seate.
