While this movie is dated and has somewhat of Cold War tone to it, it accurately reflects the Soviet Refusniks' dilemma in America's "Streets of Gold." It is one of my all-time favorites and I highly recommend it..

A great Drama film with great acting. I really got into the characters and the movie has a lot of secondary actors you will notice who were or is doing TV shows. I won't say who. You will just have to watch it.

As we are young, we consider that we know almost everything, but as we grow older & wiser, we find how little we do know, but we do recognize that certain aspects' of life seldom change.

As for the movie named, "Streets Of Gold", such lessons' of young boxers' realize that there are many lessons' one can learn from those of us who are older and have experienced life to a higher and wiser level.

Streets Of Gold is a movie for those who enjoy boxing, BUT more importantly the movie is based upon learning that no matter the color, race or creed, learning what friendship and loyalty is all about. I give this movie a definate A+, but unfortunately, at present, I have not found, in English, the movie on DVD which is one of the most up-to-date methods' of enjoying viewing movies'.

WARNING: Whatever one does do, do not get rid of your VHS VCR for one never knows' when this older technology can come in handy! God bless you all, and hope you all enjoy this movie. It does have a solid plot.

IMO this is a good movie. Wesley Snipes fans will enjoy this. Two boxers are trained by a former Russian Jewish boxer banned from Russian boxing to compete against Russian boxers.

This 80's film is about a Russian immigrant former boxing hopeful who gets hooked up coaching a couple of young up and coming Brooklyn amateurs. A couple of other reviewers have used the word "gritty" to describe this flick. I agree. It is entertaining and the boxing aspects have a realistic feel to them. The Brooklyn/Coney Island environment also comes across.

This is really not a "message flick" (good), although the pointless anti-Semitism of the former USSR is portrayed. Interesting, Snipes' character is Muslim (no doubt a takeoff from the old Cassius Clay - Mohammed Ali transformation), but interesting nonetheless as this was filmed in the era before today's world relgio-political mess. The fact that his new-found trainer is a Jew is NOT an issue . . . for either of them. Refreshing, huh? The only message is that natural talent combined with hard work can pay off.

As you would expect from this subject, the characters work through various hurtles and interpersonal problems and the story builds toward a big fight. That fight was exciting and tense to watch, but I won't say more.

My only criticism is the crummy editing. The action fight scenes were edited OK, but some of the other footage was jumpy and poorly timed.

Having boxed in the amateurs, I can honestly say that this film is probably the cinema's most realistic depiction of the sport. As a result, the average viewer probably won't get into alot of it. The training sequences, open trials, and final bout (for the most part) lack the glorious pulse pounding experience of Rocky. However, its realism is a refreshing presentation and one that real boxers (especially amateurs) and boxing fans alike should appreciate. Some scenes were polished up for the average viewer. For example, if you have ever seen boxing matches, you know that if a boxer is knocked down and obviously won't make it up before the count of 10, the referee can stop it then and there. At the end of the film, watching the referee's actions, that's exactly what happened. However, the average viewer just won't get it. So, they dubbed his voice over to say "nine...ten...you're out!" Oh well, I can live with that.

Brandauer as always gives a stellar performance as well as a pre-famous Wesley Snipes. For you boxing fans out there: don't miss this one!

This is one of those movies that never hit the main stream, but by all accounts it is well deserving. It is an excellent portrayal of the underdog who wins the glory. A must for Rocky fans. Wesley Snipes plays the street smart boxer and Adrian Pasdar plays a clean cut type. They both go through personal turmoil before they reach their goals.

Although this is a dated, the plot is excellent as is the dialogue and actors. It's especially interesting to see a young Adrian Pasdar and a young Wesley Snipes. It's still a gritty story.

This is a great movie. I really wish they would put some of these old classics on DVD. They seem to be forgotten and lost. Only way to get them is on vhs. They need to be remastered and converted to DVD.
