KEELer comeback, coming straight from the Streets, this is Rock!,
By
This review is from: Streets of Rock & Roll (Audio CD)
Although his first claim to fame came with the "Steeler" album- his collaboration with Yngwie Malmsteen, Ron Keel can, in retrospect, take bigger pride on his personal musical outfit "Keel" for the accumulated sales of 2 million album copies (according to `Classic Rock' magazine*)which by today's music sales standards is a mega seller. Let's get this out of the way, "Streets of Rock & Roll" is a- made in heaven- comeback for "Keel". That is mainly because Ron seems not to be looking for modernity instead he draws inspiration from his four 80s classic albums and writes the most amazing follow up to the self titled 1987 album.
I have to honestly admit that I was hoping for a fair comeback album from Keel but never expected it to be THAT good. In what respect? Well the album is filled with twin guitar melodies, on the opening riffs on the bridges, within the solos, you name it. In addition, Ron undoubtedly sings the biggest ever "Keel" choruses with his trademark 80s vocal only now sounding ten times more determined. Plus the guitar riffs and solos are just as extensive as they were back in the day. Favorite tracks are the super melodic, "No more lonely nights", "Hit the ground running" and the title track. Ron Keel is not here to convince the public he has matured out from the 80s extravaganza, on the contrary he proves that he shares every bit the same passion that elevated his band into playing with the biggest selling 80s rock acts. And you can feel this is a proper reunion even before playing the album, when you concentrate on the band line up: drummer Dwain Miller, lead guitarists Mark Ferrari and Bryan Jay (whose hair is just as big as in 1986) all reunite with a fit Ron Keel whose vocals have not diminished one bit over the decades. So the "Final Frontier" line up is rebuilt (with sole exception of classic bass player Kenny Chaisson being replaced by Geno Ace). I have to say that despite the intervening years "Keel" has not suffered losses in terms of band members, performance, image, but most importantly the will and right to Rock!!! *"Classic Rock" UK magazine (issue 142) marks this album with 7/10 commenting: "Marc Ferrari's guitar playing is as stylish as the car with which he shares his name... why the left it so long to return?" If you enjoyed the comeback albums of "Kiss", "Whitesnake", "Winger", "Europe", "White Lion", `Keel - Streets of Rock& Roll' will further complete your collection.

This is a very cool cd. I have been a fan of Keel for many years. When I heard they were putting out a new cd I couldn't wait. Back In Action was very good, but this cd rocks. I like every track on the cd. The band is in top form and Ron's voice still sounds like it did 20 years ago. I highly recommend this cd to anyone that likes good rock music. Buy it and rock out. I just wanted to add that after having this for a bit (it is now April 6 ), I like it even better than when I first wrote this review!!!

I didn't know this existed until I talked to Ron Keel on FB. I promptly ordered it (rush delivery of course), and was pleasantly surprised. The album starts off with the title track, and I'm thinking 'Ok, it's been a while, maybe they're a bit more soft than they used to be'. It's a fine track, but what hit me hard was 'Come Hell or High Water'...I was thinking 'Keel's back!' That song could've been on the 1st album, or Final Frontier. All original band, except for a new bassist. The boys lay down a nice rock album that any Keel-a-holic should enjoy. Ron's voice is still strong, and Marc and Brian have only gotten better. Play it loud.

With so many 80's bands releasing sub par material to make a few extra bucks, cashing in on former glory,it is refreshing to listen to the latest Keel offering. Keel never really made it BIG,but they did put out a few quality releases (The Right to Rock,Final Frontier, and their self titled cd that featured "Somebodys Waiting"),this cd remains true to form,so if you are a fan,you will not be disappointed. You might even be surprised as to how good this cd is.This release is one of the better ones in recent years from the "Hair band era" bands.

Keel means business on this release. I have not stopped crankin' this CD since I've gotten it. This is one of the most impressive releases I have ever received bar none! Streets of Rock & Roll is the best from beginning to end out of their whole collection in my opinion. I have been into Keel since they put out their first release and they still cary the flag for Hard Rock/Heavy Metal proud and I thank them. There is some real quality song writing on this. Great mix, nice and heavy and not over done. If you like Keels' music you will not be disappointed with Streets of Rock & Roll! The most impressive is that you can put this on and not have to let it grow on you. Ron Keels' voice shines here. The guitar work is excellent from Bryan Jay and Marc Ferrari. The rhythm section of Dwain Miller on drums and newer member Geno Arce on bass is tight and grooves along. Great job Keel and thank you for not changing to sound like everyone else.

Keel's newest offering, entitled The streets of rock n roll is amazingly good stuff. It shows a more refined side of the band, while maintaining their "metal" persona. This album is just what accomplished musicians of the genre should sound like. Ron Keel is still on top of his game with his classic 80's chorus singing, but adding a new found energy in his vocals. Amazingly, Ron has not lost any of his vocal abilities! There are excellent guitar melodies and harmonies thrown about various songs. Their sound is more in the vein of Winger, Europe, Bon Jovi types, but they still maintain their uniqueness that sets them apart from the rest. Marc Ferrari was and still IS a great guitar player, and I feel he is underrated. This comeback effort by KEEL is by far one of the best return albums of this year! KEEL is back with power, maturity, and determination. Their sound does not stray far at all from their original 80's style, but rather draws heavily on it. This makes this one Hell of a great album to subject your ears to! I thought this would be a mundane effort by KEEL as a comeback, but was I pleasantly surprised when I played the first track and the rest of this album! Get This One!

This is a decent comeback cd from Keel. While it nice to see the guys back togeather again, the knock against Keel and why the never made it big in the 80's is beacause they dont write great songs. All the songs on the cd are decent and my personal favorite is "Does Anyone Believe?" Ron gotta great voice and the band is talented. I feel the band would be even better if the had some else either write their songs or help them write tunes. Keel has been around since 1984 it is time they put out a greatest hits/ best of cd. Welcome back guys.
