This review is from: Streetwise Business Valuation: Proven Methods to Easily Determine the True Value of Your Business (Adams Streetwise Series) (Paperback)
Written in a pithy, yet imminently readable style, this book gives a comprehensive treatment of the subject. It's refreshing to read something so concise and well-written from a CPA! Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars A concise primer for small business owners, October 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Streetwise Business Valuation: Proven Methods to Easily Determine the True Value of Your Business (Adams Streetwise Series) (Paperback)
This is an introductory book written primarily for small business owners. The book was not intended for the experienced practitioners of business valuation or someone who is well versed in corporate finance or a CPA. The more well rounded titles are "Valuation, what assets are really worth" written by Alfred M. King, "The Business of Business Valuation" written by Gary E. Jones and Dirk Van Dyke, and "How to value your business and increase its potential" written by Jay B. Abrams.

The author, an experienced and well respected practitioner, in her attempt to break it down for her target audience oversimplified the skill of selecting an appropriate discount rate which takes years of training and practice to understand and develop. Overall, this is a very good primer but not an outstanding titles like the ones that I listed above. I could only give the title 4 stars.

For someone who has taken a corporate finance course or a business valuation course, I would recommend any of the following titles "Valuation, measuring and managing the value of companies" written by a team of Mc Kinsey consultants, "Business Valuation, an integrated approach" written by Christopher Mercer, "Damodaran on Valuation" written by Aswath Damodaran, "Cost of capital" written by Shannon Pratt and Roger Grabowski, "Corporate Finance, a valuation approach" by Simon Benninga, "Corporate Valuation" 2nd edition written by David Frykman and Jakob Tolleryd, and "Corporate Valuation, a guide for investors and managers" written by a team of corporate finance and valuation professors at the University of Tennessee. "Investment banking" written by Josh Rosenbaum and Josh Pearl, is also an excellent title that I like very much.
