Streetwise Madrid Map - Laminated City Center Street Map of Madrid, Spain

I got this for a recent trip to Madrid. It's an excellent map if you are interested in central Madrid, showing plenty of detail, and the laminated format makes it easy to carry around and fold/unfold. But if you are looking for something outside of the central area (e.g. the University of Madrid, which I as visiting, and which was tantalizingly just off this map.), it would be better to get a map of the entire city.

"Streetwise" city maps are great boon for the traveler. They're simple, durable and easily stowed in any pocket. The "Streetwise Map of Madrid" is no exception to this group of travel aids. I used it recently on visits to Madrid and found it to be perfect for getting around the city, including via the Metro system.

These maps are easy to carry and use. I always buy them for the cities I visit.

This map was not very helpful and was hard to read. There must be better maps out there than this, even the little pull-out map that came with our Lonely Planet guide book was more useful.

This is the second Streetwise map I own. I have the Barcelona version which I used a year ago. It was great. This map of Madrid however has the western part of central Madrid covered with the Logo/Title at the top and the UPC at the bottom. I can't see the street where my language school is because the UPC is on top of it. They could have easily made these removable stickers so that the entire map was usable.

While many guide books have a "free" small paper map in back, buy the larger and more detailed and laminated Streetwise map. I took it every day and it was the map we referred to. While it is too large to easily fit in a pants pocket all day, I carried a small backpack (and was of course careful of pickpockets) with jacket, camera, etc., and it fit just fine in an outside pocket and was quickly available.

This map appears to be of good quality (durable), very good detail but still easy to read, includes the Metro lines and lists virtually all of the Madrid tourist attractions I found in the travel books (Fodors, Frommer, etc.). The map is considerably wider than it is tall. The dimensions are about 27 in. wide and about 8 in. tall. The northern half of the city is shown on on one side of the map and the southern half is shown on the other side.
My only complaint is that, when switching from the north to the south or (south to north) sides, you can't just flip the map over vertically to find that continuing street. Instead you have to flip the map the long way (flip end to end instead of top to bottom). This may not seem like a big deal, but, for me at least, I find I am constantly flipping the map the wrong way and working a bit harder to find the street I was looking for.
Interestingly, I also purchased a Streetwise map of Barcelona. The Barcelona map flips the logical way.

This map was very helpful for navigating Madrid on foot and on the metro. It's fairly durable and easy to use.

Great map, even though GPS is now the way most people go...i just love an actual map to get the context.

Excellent resource for finding ones way through the maze of streets that are Madrid. Would highly recommend this, even for the seasoned traveler! Points of interests are highlighted. Have used the Streetwise series of laminated maps on several trips and they are marvelous!!
