Streetwise Prague Map - Laminated City Center Street Map of Prague, Czech Republic

I have to admit, I'm biased towards the "Streetwise" series. Having spent a great deal of time in Europe both on my own and as a tour guide, I learned quickly to appreciate the value of these maps. The Prague version naturally has most of the tourist areas: Mala Strana, Karlovy Most, the Jewish Quarter, Hradacny Castle plus landmarks, points of interest and major hotels/restaurants on one side: great for navigating around the city. Also, it has an overview of the Metro system, and street index on the back. The single-sided plan saves having to switch back and forth while maneuvering around tourists/traffic. But the lamination is the greatest idea: waterproof and easy to write on and erase. I would suggest an alcohol pen to mark routes etc on your copy. All this map needs is a Lat/Long grid to be an ideal tool for visiting Prague.

There are maps with even more detail, but this map is an essential. Lightweight, laminated (waterproof), pocket-sized, and with almost all the detail that most visitors need. Fully-opened, it is still small, unobtrusive, and easy to use. A handy gazeteer lists many streets and monuments, with map grid locations. There are some very tiny streets/alleys that are hard to make out, but that is true for almost any
pocket-sized folding map. I buy a Streetwise for any city destination.

I've become a loyal fan of Streetwise maps, and the Prague map is no exception. The detail and accuracy of the map is great, and the laminated format makes it very easy to use. I never get stuck trying to re-fold Streetwise maps, and they're easy to fold down to view just the panel you need, so that you're not so obvious as a tourist walking around with a huge, unwieldy map. Plus, you never have to worry about tearing or spilling on them!

I am in the process of movie to Prague and bought this map as a resource for that move. I can't find any of the streets I am looking for on this map. I picked up a free one at AAA and it has much more detail.

I believe that this map may be useful for a tourist just trying to find a few key locations but beyond that, it is a waste of money. It is not worth $8.

In typical Streetwise fashion, this is an excellent map that is key to exploring the city of Prague which has many confusing streets with confusing names.

This is a map not a guide and while it does point out places of interest it is obviously meant as a map first and foremost. None of the free maps I found came close to be as legible and understandable. The fact that it is a trifold lamninated map makes it very easy to keep in your jacket and use.

A definite must have for Prague in my opinion.

It's true that I could have done worse, which is why this doesn't get only one star. I did manage to get around the city with this map in my pocket (though I had another map for more detailed reference).

HOWEVER, one piece of misinformation really cost me. They have the Fakultni Poliklinka labeled as "English Speaking Hospital for Foreigners". I had a medical problem that needed attention. When I went there, I did manage to find someone who spoke English, but it definitely wasn't a hospital for foreigners. It got worse. This woman was able to make a map to show me where the surgery building was. When I got there, no one spoke English or offered to help me find someone who could. In fact, I had a door closed on me as I was trying to find help. Some "foreigners'" hospital! Fortunately, it was just for a check-up, not a serious condition.

Prague is a VERY difficult city to navigate in... if you think you can get around with just a map like Streetwise Prague, you're mistaken. If you're staying in a hostel, look for a map in the city somewhere; if in a hotel, get a detailed map from the lobby. Don't rely on Streetwise Prague, as quick-reference maps like this aren't that useful in a crowded city designed over the course of 10 centuries.

Streetwise maps are easy to use, easy to read, easy to refold, easy to wipe dry when your coffee spills. I always take one.

I used this map while I was in Prague and thought it was great. I had no problems and found it helpful. I would recommend it to anyone going to Prague.

We purchased this map before visiting Prague and it was extremely useful. It also includes a subway map which helped a great deal.

Free maps are ubiquitous here in Prague and other similar tourist destinations (walk into any hotel and ask for one), so you've got to provide value that exceeds the free variety. This map does not.

The good thing is that it is laminated, so you can bring it with you everywhere and it's not going to get worn out like paper maps. It also has a key which lists all the streets and many attractions, and which quadrant to find them on the map, which can be helpful if you've got a friend telling you they're on X street.

Here comes the bad. The map is divided in half horizontally, and the two halves are printed on the front and back sides. The divide goes right through Wenceslas Square and the center of Prague. This rendered the map useless for me. It's hard enough when you're trying to find where you are and where you're going, and it's impossible to do when you're flipping the map over, trying to remember the place of where you're at. It also doesn't have any bus routes on it, which other maps do.

Do yourself a favor, save the $8 and pick up a map from any hotel in the center. You'll be glad you did.
